Stephen Jones thinks Tony Romo would be accepting of backup role
It looks more and more as if Dak Prescott will remain the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, which means that, at least for the remainder of the season, Tony Romo is going to be seated on the bench.
Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones, however, thinks Romo would at least be open to accepting a backup role.
“Well, first of all Tony’s a competitor and obviously all competitors want to be the very best they can be, they want to play, they want to start,” Jones told 103.5 The Fan on Friday, via Max Meyer of NFL.com. “Any athlete who’s played a sport they want to contribute and certainly he does.
“At the same time Tony’s the consummate team player and I think if it meant as part of the process with Tony going into games as a backup then, I don’t want to speak for him, but my guess would be that he would.”
Romo is very close to making a return to the active roster. With Prescott looking increasingly like the quarterback of the present as well as the future, Romo might have to sit for the rest of the season. That he might tolerate, but you have to imagine at the end of the season, both team and player will seek a more permanent solution.
