Smith had originally intended to retire after the 2015 season, but he clearly does not want a major injury to force him from the game. He suffered a torn Achilles (video here) on Nov. 1 and has not played since.
Smith, who topped 1,000 yards receiving for the eighth time in his career in 2014, was well on his way to having one of his best seasons prior to the injury. However, he will turn 37 in May and still has a long way to go before he is fully recovered.
A torn Achilles is one of the most challenging injuries to bounce back from, but it would be silly to doubt Smith. He showed us this season that he is still just as passionate about football with trash-talking rants like this one. The NFL is more fun when 89 is on the field.
