Tom Brady says doubters are not his primary motivation to win with Bucs

Tom Brady

Tom Brady chose to wait until after his 42nd birthday to begin a new chapter in his NFL career, and many feel that is not going to work out for him. Brady has been motivated by naysayers throughout his entire athletic career, but he claims that will not be the primary driving force behind him wanting to succeed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports Boston asked Brady in an email if those who believe he will fail in Tampa Bay serve as motivation, but the four-time Super Bowl MVP did his best to downplay it.

“I’m always motivated to do the best I can do for many reasons,” Brady said. “The main motivation I have is the love of the sport and that I want to continue to do something I love to do. It’s not any more difficult than that.”

It goes without saying that Brady wants to prove he can continue to play at a high level. If the Patriots felt he had two more years of great football left in him, they would have tried a lot harder to re-sign him. Brady knows Bill Belichick thinks Brady’s skills are declining and that the Patriots can replace him.

If there’s one thing we know about Brady, it is that he is going to approach his new job with the same level of commitment and enthusiasm he showed in New England for two decades. The first request he made to his new team proved that. One of the main reasons Brady has won six Super Bowls is his ability to keep the chip on his shoulder no matter how much he accomplishes. There’s no reason to expect that to change now that he is wearing a new uniform.
