Rory McIlroy becomes new face of EA Sports PGA Tour video game

World No. 1 golfer Rory McIlroy is currently the face of the sport, and EA Sports has decided to treat him as such. The company announced on Monday that McIlroy has officially been named the new face of its PGA Tour video game series.

As Golf Digest noted, EA Sports ended its relationship with Tiger Woods less than two years ago. The last few times Tiger was on the cover of the game, he was accompanied by other people like this golf legend. Now, McIlroy has it all to himself.

“When you grow up playing golf you never really dream of being a character in a video game, let alone the guy on the box,” McIlroy told “The technology powering the game is incredible. The courses are absolutely gorgeous, and looking at screenshots from the game you think someone just took a photo of the actual holes.”

The name “Rory McIlroy PGA Tour” will take some getting used to, but the 25-year-old certainly deserves the honor. He has already won four major championships and shows no signs of slowing down, regardless of how many people heckle him about the way his relationship with Caroline Wozniacki ended.

McIlroy is on top of the golf world. EA Sports was wise to realize that.
