Michael Vick’s Birthday Party: Cake and Bullets Not a Good Mix

June 27, 2010 by Erin Redmond • Comments

Birthdays are a time for celebration. They indicate that you are another year older and wiser … unless your name is Michael Vick. Vick celebrated his 30th birthday by hosting a party late Thursday night at a club in Virgina Beach. The party was “all white” attire themed and the invitation included the names of some high-profile athletes who were supposed to be in attendance, such as Allen Iverson and DeAngelo Hall.

Apparently when the club was closing for the night Vick either threatened to or did shove cake in someone’s face which resulted in one of Vick’s co-defendants from his 2007 dog fighting case, Quanis Phillips, ending up being shot.  The injury wasn’t life threatening but this could bring a whole new mess of trouble for Vick. Here’s why:

1. Under court order, Vick isn’t supposed to be in the presence of his co-defendants.

2. Being anywhere around a firearm is not exactly following the terms of his probation.

We all know that Vick isn’t known for his decision making, so this really doesn’t shock me. I was under the impression that Donovan McNabb had an effect on Vick last season and that the QB was trying to get his life back on track. Maybe with McNabb gone Vick has no one to watch over him and he’s just gone back to his old, stupid ways.

There’s an age old lesson here for Mr. Vick: you can’t have your cake and eat it too. If you want to be a professional athlete, you have to be just that — professional. But if you want to be stupid and conduct in illegal activities, then you’re going to land your butt back in jail and out of the NFL for good. The fact that you even got a second chance should be something that you cherish and thank god for everyday. Instead, you’re hanging around with idiots who carry guns into clubs. Not smart. Next time maybe you should include on the invitation that guns are not part of the dress code instead of worrying about everyone wearing white.
