Birdman may be victim of extortion attempt

As soon as Chris “Birdman” Andersen’s name was attached to a child pornography investigation, we figured his reputation might be permanently stained. But according to his lawyer, he may just be a victim in the case.

On Friday, The Denver Post shared a statement issued by Andersen’s lawyer. In the statement, the attorney says a California woman sent Birdman some scantily-clad photos in 2010 that grabbed his interest. She flew out to Colorado to meet him last year, but he apparently was uninterested. According to the statement, the woman “threatened to retaliate if he did not provide financial remuneration.”

We’re not sure how this story resulted in an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children unit. It’s possible the female fan turned out to be underage, or it’s possible she did some something else to get him in trouble in that regard.

The good news is things are looking much better for people who were hoping Birdman didn’t have any involvement in child pornography. Hopefully more information will bring clarity to the investigation.
