Report: Eagles have ‘very real’ interest in drafting a quarterback in first round

Carson Wentz

Could the Philadelphia Eagles be in the mix for some of the top quarterbacks in the NFL Draft? The answer is reportedly yes.

Sources told Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole that the Eagles have “very real” interest in drafting a quarterback with the 8th overall pick, and possibly even trading up.

Cole says the fact that Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie has been personally involved in traveling to scout top prospects Jared Goff and Carson Wentz is an indication that the team is serious about the possibility.

Some in the NFL reportedly believe, however, that this is posturing on Philadelphia’s part with the intention of trying to get San Francisco to use the 7th pick on a quarterback, thus leaving a quality defensive player on the board for the Eagles to snap up.

The Eagles recently gave Sam Bradford a new two-year deal, and added Chase Daniel to compete with him for the starting job. Many are rightly skeptical that either is a long-term solution at the quarterback position. They’ve already moved up in the draft by swapping picks with Miami as a part of the Byron Maxwell-Kiko Alonso trade. Perhaps they really are looking for a young quarterback of the future.
