The Dallas Mavericks are expected to explore potential trades for Anthony Davis leading up to the February deadline, and the 10-time All-Star has now been linked to a new team.
In a column that was published on Monday, ESPN’s Jamal Collier reported that the Chicago Bulls have had internal discussions about potentially trying to trade for Davis.
The Bulls got off to a hot start this season before losing nine of their last 12 games to fall to 9-10. They are now left wondering whether they can realistically assemble a contender, and Collier says they view Davis as a player who could help solve their rim protection issues, among other things.
Davis has been sidelined since October due to a calf strain. One recent report claimed the trade market for him is not all that robust, which is hardly a surprise given his age, contract and injury history. Davis is signed through 2028. He is making $54.1 million this season and $58.5 million next season. He holds a $62.8 million player option for 2027-28 as well.
While there have been multiple contending teams linked to Davis, the asking price will likely be the biggest factor in whether he is dealt or remains in Dallas. The Mavericks are 6-15 and nowhere near contention after trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. It makes sense for them to move on from Davis, but Davis’ trade value is trending in the wrong direction.
