Joel Embiid needed IV fluids before Game 2 against Raptors
Joel Embiid was effective enough to help the Philadelphia 76ers even their series against the Toronto Raptors at 1-1 on Monday night, but the big man was clearly playing at less than full strength.
Following his team’s 94-89 win, Sixers head coach Brett Brown revealed that Embiid received IV fluids before playing in the game.

Embiid was battling a bout of gastroenteritis before the game, and it prevented him from participating in Philly’s shootaround earlier in the day. Despite that, he still managed to play 32 minutes, score 12 points and grab six rebounds. That was enough to help propel his team to victory in a low-scoring game.
Of course, Embiid has also been dealing with a knee injury during the playoffs. He said he anticipates his role growing going forward, but that will all depend upon his health.
