Report reveals LeBron James’ stance on Lakers coaching search
Much has been made of what LeBron James will think of the next Los Angeles Lakers coach, but a new report suggests that angle might be overblown.
ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported Thursday that James has had no contact with the Lakers about any potential coaching candidates. James has reportedly told the Lakers that he is “mindful and respectful” of the reality that the team’s new coach may remain with the Lakers beyond his playing career, and that the organization should make what it feels is the best decision for its own future.
James, through his representatives, has made it clear that the Lakers should do what is best for the organization and is mindful and respectful that the Lakers need to make a decision on a coach that will be with the team beyond his playing career. https://t.co/FmWm9iSlGk

This may be coming from James’ camp, but there certainly seems to be an effort to downplay James’ role in the team’s next hire. There is also the added layer of James’ son Bronny and whether he might be of interest to the Lakers. James will not want to be seen as pulling strings to make the entire Laker organization revolve around him and his family.
Regardless of James’ stance, the Lakers do appear to be willing to go off the beaten path for some riskier head coach hires. That said, James seems to be a fan of their leading candidate, so he will probably wind up happy even if he is not making his voice heard.
