Spurs’ championship odds for next season take a dive

The San Antonio Spurs’ odds to win the championship next season have taken a dive.

The Spurs’ odds to win it all for the 2025-2026 season as listed by BetOnline.ag went from 20/1 to 40/1. Why did their odds drop in the last day? It’s apparently related to the possibility that the Spurs might have been able to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo in a trade.

Antetokounmpo reportedly is open to being traded by the Milwaukee Bucks to another team. Some teams like the Spurs may have been holding on to some assets in hopes of using them to acquire the Greek Freak. But rather than look to trade Antetokounmpo, the Bucks seem intent on trying to improve their team and compete.

The Bucks on Tuesday decided to waive Damian Lillard via the stretch provision. They used the money they had available to sign Myles Turner to a 4-year, $107 million deal. A move like that makes it seem unlikely that Antetokounmo will be dealt.

The Spurs made a big move in February when they acquired De’Aaron Fox in a trade with Sacramento. They have Fox, Victor Wembanyama, reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle, and they just drafted Dylan Harper No. 2 overall. They are an emerging team, and the possibility of adding Antetokounmpo to the mix was enthralling. But it doesn’t look like that is doing to be happening any time soon.
