Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin will not be fighting next month in the wake of Alvarez testing positive for a banned substance.
Alvarez and his attorney spoke with the media from the Golden Boy offices in Los Angeles on Tuesday, and they revealed that the middleweight championship fight scheduled for May 5 has been called off.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission announced in last month that Alvarez has been suspended for testing positive for the banned substance clenbuterol during two drug tests in February. Alvarez was scheduled to have a hearing on April 10. The 27-year-old has said his positive test stemmed from eating contaminated meat in Mexico, which is an explanation other Golden Boy Promotions fighters have used in the past.
After Alvarez tested positive, GGG accused his upcoming opponent of having used PEDs before the two first fought last September. That fight ended in a draw.
