Report: TE Benjamin Watson visiting with Patriots

Ben Watson

Benjamin Watson has changed his mind about retiring and intends to play in 2019, and all the talk about him reuniting with the New England Patriots may come to fruition.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Watson was scheduled to visit with the Patriots in Foxboro on Thursday. He is also considering several other teams.

The Patriots are thin at tight end with Rob Gronkowski having retired, yet they still chose not to address the position in the draft. Watson was drafted by New England in the first round in 2004, and he spent the first six seasons of his career there. That level of familiarity with Tom Brady could be a factor if the Patriots end up signing him.

Watson, 38, caught 35 passes for 400 yards and two touchdowns last season with the New Orleans Saints. A reunion with the Patriots makes sense given the circumstances.
