The Cleveland Browns have decided on their quarterback for Week 13 now that Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel are both healthy and available.
Sanders will start the Browns’ Week 13 game against the San Francisco 49ers, coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday. The move comes despite the fact that Gabriel has cleared concussion protocol, meaning this is the product of an actual coaching decision.
While Sanders was not great in Sunday’s 24-10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, he was good enough. He went 11/20 for 203 yards, but flashed enough talent to justify giving him another start. After all, Gabriel had hardly performed well enough to lock down the job as his own.
Gabriel is 1-5 in six starts this year. He has only thrown for 937 yards, though he does have seven touchdown passes to two interceptions.
The Browns, at this point, are simply looking for any signals that either Sanders or Gabriel could function as a long-term answer at quarterback. Gabriel could certainly get the job back if Sanders falters, but for now, the fifth-round pick will have the opportunity to impress in his audition.
