Report: Chiefs far apart in contract negotiations with Chris Jones
Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones opted against holding out and reported to training camp on time despite his desire for a new contract. Unfortunately for him, it looks unlikely that he’ll get it.
According to Jeffri Chadiha of NFL Network, the Chiefs and Jones are far apart in negotiations. The Chiefs want to sign Jones to a contract similar to the one Grady Jarrett got from Atlanta for four years and $68 million. Jones, however, wants something in the neighborhood of new teammate Frank Clark, who got five years and $104 million, with $63 million of that guaranteed.
@chiefs team source says there is big gap between team and @stonecoldjones_ on new deal. Team wants something closer to the 4-yr/$68m/$42 m guaranteed @AtlantaFalcons gave @GradyJarrett. Jones wants to be closer to deal Frank Clark just got (5yr/$104m/$63m guaranteed).

Jones had a breakout season with 15.5 sacks in 2018 and wants to be paid accordingly. It appears, however, that he won’t be getting the contract he wants, at least right now.
