Colts completely hosed by refs on final play of regulation

Colts Jaguars out of bounds

The Indianapolis Colts were completely hosed on the final play of their game with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Indianapolis was facing a 3rd-and-8 with 9 seconds left, trailing 6-0 against the Jags. They had the ball at the 30 and were within striking distance of the end zone.

Andrew Luck completed a pass to Erik Swoope by the sideline, and Swoope was tackled out of bounds, 2 yards shy of the first down marker. However, the official ruled that Swoope’s forward progress was stopped before he was pushed out, which kept the clock running. Time ran out and the Jags won 6-0.

Here’s a look at the play.

That’s a judgment call by the official and not reviewable, which is why the game ended. That did not seem clear enough to me like Swoope’s forward progress was stopped where that call should have been made. The Colts should have had one final shot at the end zone before the game ended.
