The New York Giants announced on Monday that they have benched quarterback Daniel Jones, and many football fans immediately realized the type of impact that could have on their Thanksgiving Day viewing experience.
The Dallas Cowboys play every year on Thanksgiving. This season, they are hosting the Giants in a clash of NFC East rivals. That might have sounded appealing when the 2024 NFL schedule came out, but boy have circumstances changed over the last several weeks.
Tommy DeVito is now New York’s starting quarterback. Cooper Rush is No. 1 on the Cowboys’ depth chart after Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending hamstring injury. Assuming there are no injuries, that likely sets up a DeVito-Rush showdown on Thanksgiving Day in less than two weeks.

You can probably guess how the NFL world feels about that:

There will still be some star power in the Giants-Cowboys game. You have two of the NFL’s elite receivers in CeeDee Lamb and rookie Malik Nabers. Micah Parsons is also one of the most exciting defensive players in football, but the matchup has the potential to be a total bust.
Fortunately, there are two other Thanksgiving Day games on the slate this year. The Detroit Lions will host the Chicago Bears and the Miami Dolphins will travel to Green Bay to face the Packers. It may be up to those four teams to save one of the best football days of the year.
