Jimmy Garoppolo says he is on track to start in Week 1 of the NFL season.
Garoppolo has not played in a regular season game since suffering a torn ACL in Week 3 last season. He said on San Francisco sports radio station KNBR Wednesday that he is on schedule for a Week 1 return.
While Jerick McKinnon and Kentavius Street have their ACL comebacks on hold, Jimmy Garoppolo's remains on track for #49ers.
JG on KNBR: "We really, knock on wood, haven't had any setbacks and been on schedule the whole time. … Things are really coming together."— Cam Inman (@CamInman) August 29, 2019
The comments should be comforting to 49ers fans, though not too surprising. Team GM John Lynch recently said that Garoppolo’s recovery had been “flawless.”
Garoppolo had an awful preseason debut this year, going 1/6 for 0 yards and an interception. He bounced back the following week, going 14/20 for 188 yards and a touchdown against Kansas City. San Francisco will hope to see that form from Garoppolo when the season begins.
