The Green Bay Packers saw their season end in disappointing fashion thanks in large part to special teams blunders, and they have made a major move to address those issues.
The Packers are expected to hire Rich Bisaccia as their special teams coordinator, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.
The #Packers are expected to hire former #Raiders interim coach Rich Bisaccia as their new special teams coach, sources say. The unit was an issue in GB last year, and coach Matt LaFleur goes a long way toward fixing it. Bisaccia is universally respected.

Bisaccia, 61, was hired by Jon Gruden in 2018 as special teams coordinator of the Las Vegas Raiders. He was promoted to interim head coach this season after Gruden resigned due to his leaked email scandal. Bisaccia led the team to the playoffs and earned a tremendous amount of respect from Raiders players. He was considered a potential head coach candidate by at least one team this offseason.
The Packers will probably have to make Bisaccia the highest-paid special teams coach in the NFL, but it may be worth it. They struggled on special teams all season, and the problems came to a head in their Divisional Round game against the San Francisco 49ers. Green Bay had a field goal blocked and a punt blocked and returned for a touchdown in that 13-10 loss. They then made an inexcusable error on the 49ers’ game-winning field goal.
If the Packers can convince Aaron Rodgers to return, they will be in excellent shape heading into 2022. Bisaccia is a huge addition to head coach Matt LaFleur’s staff.
