Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs battled extreme weather conditions to beat the Miami Dolphins on Saturday night, and there is one photo from the game that sums it up perfectly.
Mahomes had his helmet crack on a hard hit from Dolphins safety DeShon Elliott during the third quarter of Kansas City’s 26-7 Wild Card Round win. Mahomes was scrambling for the end zone when the hard tackle caused a chunk of his helmet to fly off. One awesome photo of the play went viral:

The temperature at kickoff in Kansas City was -4, making the game the coldest ever at Arrowhead Stadium and one of the most frigid in NFL history. The temperature likely made the material in Mahomes’ helmet brittle and played a role in it cracking. You can see the video here.
Mahomes finished out the drive with his mangled helmet. He threw two incompletions and the Chiefs settled for a field goal before Mahomes got a much-needed replacement.
Mahomes went 23/41 for 262 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. He played extremely well given how insanely cold it was.
