Aaron Rodgers may be the one holding up the quarterback market in free agency, but it ultimately may not make a difference for Russell Wilson.
The Cleveland Browns appear to be Wilson’s most likely landing spot in free agency, but a deal is no sure thing, according to Albert Breer of The MMQB. Wilson is viewed as something of a backup plan if the Browns do not draft a quarterback or work out a trade for Atlanta’s Kirk Cousins.
If the Browns ultimately do not pursue Wilson, Breer says the quarterback may be forced to wait until spring or even summer before he gets a chance to sign. At that point, Wilson would likely be relying on a camp injury or underperformance.

Breer also notes that the New York Giants may still have interest in Rodgers, but their addition of Jameis Winston might dull their interest in Wilson.
It’s tough to imagine Wilson being stuck waiting that long for a new team, even taking into account his underwhelming finish to 2025. Most quarterback-needy teams have already gone with a different option or are looking elsewhere. The Browns are the clearest option, and the Steelers might get involved again if they do not land Rodgers, but even that is not clear.
Wilson threw for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns and 5 interceptions in 11 games for Pittsburgh last season. He faded down the stretch, which no doubt hurt his stock, but he remains a starting-caliber NFL quarterback. He will land somewhere, but the wait could take weeks, or perhaps even longer than that at this rate.
