Steelers president Art Rooney wants to see more discipline out of wide receiver Martavis Bryant, who was suspended for a year following multiple failed drug tests.
News came out last week that Bryant would be suspended for a year after multiple positive drug tests. He is entering rehab as he’s said to be dealing with a depression issue.
The Steelers want Bryant back as he scored six touchdowns last season and is a valuable offensive weapon. But Rooney recognizes Bryant needs to act more professionally.
“It is very disappointing,” Rooney said of Bryant’s suspension via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “At the same time, we hope, to the extent where it is allowable, we will try to get him help, make sure he gets rehab and those kinds of things, but it is a disappointing situation to say the least,” Rooney said, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “There is not much to say other than we’re disappointed and hope that he can deal with the situation and have the discipline that is necessary to be a player in the National Football League.”
Bryant was a fourth-round pick by the Steelers out of Cincinnati in 2014 and failed six drug tests to trigger the year-long suspension, which he accepted. He scored eight touchdowns as a rookie and six last season.
