Everyone said the same thing about Angel Reese’s WNBA record
Angel Reese set a new WNBA record on Saturday, but most basketball fans were not terribly impressed.
Reese became the fastest player ever to reach 1,000 rebounds in league history in the Atlanta Dream’s 113-96 win over the Indiana Fever. She achieved the mark in just 79 games, beating the previous mark by Tina Charles, who needed 89 games to do so.
This was not enough to earn the respect of social media commentators, though. Many quickly brought back the “mebounds” narrative, and joked that Reese only has as many rebounds as she does because she misses so many shots.
It's extra special because 700 of them were from her missed shots pic.twitter.com/9RxwOfrNlj

How many of those are from her own missed layups?
— Desert Dweller (@IvysDad522) June 20, 2026
Reese has long been criticized for what have become called “mebounds,” which is shorthand for her bolstering her numbers by rebounding her own misses. The Atlanta Dream forward has largely been dismissive of that narrative, and even took advantage of its popularity by making some money off of the reputation.
For whatever it’s worth, Reese scored 18 points on 7/14 shooting to go with her eight rebounds in Saturday’s win.
Reese has been racking up these sorts of records lately. There is no denying her rebounding prowess, and is averaging 12.2 boards per game so far this season. On the other hand, the occasional issues on offense still pop up, limiting her upside.
Draymond Green names the 1 team he did not want to see win the NBA title
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green was privately rooting against one particular team to win the NBA title during the playoffs.
Green admitted that, though he downplayed his wishes publicly, he was hoping the Oklahoma City Thunder would not claim their second consecutive title this year. The Warriors remain the most recent team to win consecutive championships, and Green wants it to stay that way.
“You’re going to put on an act and be like, you know, I don’t really care if OKC win again or not. Deep down inside you don’t want to see another team go back to back,” Green admitted. “Like, we did that. We were the last team to do that, right? You want to hold on to some of that.”

Green was fairly complimentary of the Thunder during the playoffs, so he hid his biases fairly well. In fact, he questioned the eventual champions far more harshly than he ever talked about Oklahoma City.
Green was able to enjoy the NBA Finals in peace, since the Thunder were ousted by the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals. Presumably, this means he will be pulling against the Knicks next season.
1 frontrunner emerges to trade for Ja Morant
Ja Morant may be inching ever so closer to a new landing spot.
One frontrunner has surfaced to trade for the disgruntled Memphis Grizzlies star Morant, Sam Amick of The Athletic said this week on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back.” Amick said that the two main teams that he has heard in connection with Morant are the New Orleans Pelicans and the Sacramento Kings. Of those two teams, Amick added that he would “probably push it” in favor of the Pelicans.
Morant, the 26-year-old former All-Star, is expected to be sent packing by the Grizzlies this summer. Memphis went 25-57 this past season, and Morant is the last remaining piece of the team’s former Big Three (after both Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. were traded away over the course of the last year).
Meanwhile, Morant’s trade value is at a low point right now. He appeared in only 20 games during the season due to elbow and calf injuries, and the Grizzlies are now effectively desperate to shed the $42.2 million that Morant is owed in 2026-27 and the $44.9 million that Morant is owed in 2027-28 as well.
As for the Pelicans, they need an energy jolt themselves after going 26-56 this season. New Orleans’ backcourt is also largely underwhelming right now with the oft-injured Dejounte Murray, the inefficient Jordan Poole, and the 19-year-old Jeremiah Fears leading the charge.
We learned earlier this month that one other prominent trade suitor had pulled out of the race for Morant. But now it looks like the high-flying Morant might be getting a chance to remain in the Southwest Division with the Pelicans.
AJ Dybantsa makes a surprise revelation ahead of the NBA Draft
AJ Dybantsa is feeling very confident in his existing body of work.
The top draft prospect Dybantsa spoke this week on the “Baseline Banter” podcast. During the episode, Dybantsa made the surprise revelation that he did not work out for a single team prior to the NBA Draft later this month.
“I didn’t work out for none, I just visited the cities,” said Dybantsa. “Take me to the facility, take me to dinner, talk. I don’t gotta workout. They know what I can do.”
The 19-year-old Dybantsa, a 6-foot-9 forward, is coming off a magnificent 2025-26 season for BYU. He led Division I with 25.5 points per game and also won the Julius Erving Award as the nation’s top small forward.
Meanwhile, Dybantsa is widely projected to be selected at the top of the draft on June 23. The Washington Wizards currently hold the No. 1 selection, and Dybantsa has already been publicly speaking as if he will be heading to the nation’s capital.
Still, fellow top prospect Darryn Peterson is quickly gaining ground in the race to go No. 1 overall as well, and a report this week claimed that the Wizards are now seriously considering Peterson with the pick. Though Dybantsa might have also skipped workouts in order to avoid the risk of getting hurt, it is still a very bold move that could end up backfiring on Dybantsa if he does not ultimately go with the top selection.
Knicks players confront Stephen A. Smith about his terrible Jalen Brunson take
Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart got to confront Stephen A. Smith face-to-face for some of the things he said about Brunson several years ago.
Hart and Brunson hosted a live version of their “The Roommates Show” at Madison Square Garden on Friday as part of the New York Knicks’ championship celebration. One of their guests was Smith, and the pair wasted no time in throwing Smith’s previous words in his face.
First, Smith was confronted with video from 2016 in which he said that year’s Villanova squad did not feature any NBA prospects. That team, of course, produced three players that started for the Knicks’ championship team. He also doubted Brunson’s ability to lead the Knicks to a title when the guard was signed in 2022.
Initially, Smith feigned not hearing the question, but Brunson and Hart did eventually get a mea culpa.
“I’m a grown-a– man. I was beyond wrong,” Smith admitted. “I apologized to this brother on national television. I’m apologizing to you. I’m apologizing to the entire Knicks organization.”
Josh Hart "Can you sit here & admit you were wrong?

SAS "I can't hear you
Josh "You. Were. Wrong
Jalen Brunson "APOLOGIZE"
SAS "…I was beyond wrong. I apologize…"@Roommates__Show on ESPN & YouTube pic.twitter.com/4EGbwAf7a4
Few people get to publicly chasten Smith like this. Normally, he responds to his critics in a much more combative manner, just as he did with Hart not too long ago.
Of course, this is one thing Smith is fine being wrong about. He is an avid Knicks fan who called the team’s win the best experience he has ever had while covering sports. If he has to be wrong about something, he would probably have wanted it to be this.
There has been no shortage of old takes that have been called out since Brunson led the Knicks to a title. Brunson himself has taken the high road to a certain degree, but there was no way he could let an opportunity like this pass him by.
Rudy Gobert is being linked to 1 team in trade rumors
Rudy Gobert might just be headed for the parquet courts.
The Boston Celtics have shown interest in potentially acquiring the Minnesota Timberwolves big man Gobert via trade, per a report this weekend by veteran NBA writer Jake Fischer. According to Fischer, the Celtics have inquired about Gobert’s status.
Meanwhile, Minnesota is said to be “exploratory and open-minded” about the possibility of trading away Gobert. You can read Fischer’s full report on the situation here.
Gobert, the four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, has been a mainstay on the Timberwolves since arriving in 2022. Also a three-time All-Star, Gobert continues to be arguably the NBA’s single most impactful rim protector and interior defender and is coming off a 2025-26 season in which he averaged 10.9 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game.
But Gobert turns 34 years old later this month, and the Timberwolves (who fell in the second round of this year’s playoffs) likely need to shake things up in order to compete with the likes of Oklahoma City and San Antonio in the Western Conference for the next several years to come. On top of that, Gobert is entering his final guaranteed year under contract next season at $36.5 million (with a $38 million player option in 2027-28 too).
As for the Celtics, they are currently weak in the frontcourt with Nikola Vucevic hitting free agency and Neemias Queta (who admittedly had a strong 2025-26 campaign) still a fairly one-dimensional player. If Boston decides to go after Gobert, there could be at least one player whom Minnesota would like from them from both fit and salary standpoints.
Yankees minor leaguer cost his team a game with the most embarrassing effort
A New York Yankees minor leaguer will have some questions to answer after he essentially blew a game by giving up halfway through a play.
The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders, the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate, lost the first game of a doubleheader 8-7 in walkoff fashion on Friday against the Columbus Clippers at Huntington Park in Columbus, Ohio. The game-winning hit was an inside-the-park home run by Clippers catcher Bo Naylor.
Naylor hit a fly ball to right that RailRiders right fielder Yanquiel Fernandez dove for and missed. Instead of hustling for the ball, Fernandez more or less got up and gave up on the play, even though he could have preserved a tie game by getting the ball back to the infield.
Fernandez was so done with the play that second baseman Marco Luciano had to run out to right field to retrieve the ball in a futile bid to stop Naylor from rounding the bases and scoring.

— Columbus Clippers (@CLBClippers) June 20, 2026
Either Fernandez thought the game had already been tied or he just gave up. Neither of those explanations would be particularly satisfying for his teammates. Getting the game to a ninth inning was certainly plausible, especially since this happened with two outs.
Fernandez is hitting .249 with 15 home runs this season, but plays like this will undoubtedly hurt his chances of getting promoted to the big leagues. After all, that sort of thing is not tolerated at the MLB level, and it would probably get the young outfielder benched.
Shohei Ohtani announces big personal news
Shohei Ohtani made a big announcement early Saturday about his family.
The Los Angeles Dodgers star and his wife Mamiko announced the birth of their second child early Saturday. Ohtani posted the news on Instagram, confirming that everything had gone well.
“We are again overjoyed to experience this wonderful day in our lives together,” Ohtani wrote. “Thank you for being born safely. We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported us throughout this journey.”
Ohtani and his wife previously had a baby girl together in April 2025.
Ohtani missed Friday’s Dodgers game against the Baltimore Orioles, but the team did not put him on the paternity list. Manager Dave Roberts indicated that the two-way superstar might be back with the team as soon as Saturday, though the brief break is probably not the worst thing for the blister Ohtani has been coping with recently.
Rival teams have complaint about Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo trade talks
Teams with interest in trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo are experiencing some frustration with regard to how the Milwaukee Bucks are handing negotiations.
People that have engaged with the Bucks on a potential Antetokounmpo trade feel that Milwaukee’s asking price is “unrealistic,” according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line. Specifically, the Bucks are asking teams for trade packages that would leave them unable to compete for a championship even with Antetokounmpo on the roster.
This also appears to be the key reason Milwaukee has yet to make an Antetokounmpo deal. It has been widely reported that the Miami Heat have made an offer, but the Bucks do not think it is good enough.
It is fair to question whether the Bucks can actually get a return for Antetokounmpo that they feel is good enough. It has been suggested that even a one-for-one swap for an MVP candidate might not move them. Other teams would rather give up draft picks in order to keep key players, but the Bucks seem to want a combination of both.
Interestingly, this is the exact sort of scenario Antetokounmpo himself was worried about. If the Bucks are risking making it a reality, he is probably going to be even more frustrated with the team than he already was.
Jalen Brunson’s post-championship goal gets notable seal of approval
New York Knicks Finals MVP Jalen Brunson earned strong backing from Christopher Meloni for his goal of guest starring on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” after leading the team to the 2026 NBA title.
Brunson ended the franchise’s 53-year championship drought with a five-game win over the San Antonio Spurs and later said his next move would be to “try to get on SVU.”
Brunson maintains a close friendship with Mariska Hargitay, the star who plays Captain Olivia Benson and a big Knicks supporter. Hargitay rode on Brunson’s float during the New York championship parade, and their relationship has spawned “Benson & Brunson” fan merchandise.
Meloni, Hargitay’s co-star as Detective Elliot Stabler, enthusiastically approved the idea recently.
“Absolutely,” Meloni told TMZ. “I don’t know if you’ve heard, but he’s the world champion and can do whatever the hell he wants. He’s got the force of will.”
Brunson has long been a fan of the show, influenced by his father, and shares a real bond with Hargitay. With her influence and Meloni’s support, the crossover opportunity looks promising for the basketball champion and the popular drama.
Senate passes bipartisan resolution honoring NASCAR legend Kyle Busch
The U.S. Senate has passed a bipartisan resolution honoring the life and legacy of two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch, a Las Vegas native who passed away on May 21 at the age of 41.
Sponsored by Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), Ted Budd (R-N.C.), and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), the measure recognizes Busch’s remarkable achievements and his dedication as a father and mentor. It highlights his record 19 consecutive seasons with at least one NASCAR Cup Series win from 2005 through 2023, the longest streak in the sport’s history.
Busch was the winningest driver across NASCAR’s three national series, amassing 234 victories, including 63 in the Cup Series, 102 in the Xfinity Series, and 69 in the Truck Series. He claimed Cup championships in 2015 and 2019.
“Busch earned the respect of both opposing drivers and fans through his commitment to providing thrilling entertainment to NASCAR crowds with his performative driving style,” the resolution read in part. “He embraced his role as a champion driver and devoted father, proudly mentored and coached his son, Brexton, who began his own journey in motorsports, and helped to foster the passion for racing in the next generation.”
The resolution also celebrates Busch’s performative driving style that thrilled fans and his role as a devoted family man who mentored his son Brexton in motorsports. Survived by his wife Samantha and children Brexton and Lennix, Busch’s contributions to racing and the next generation will endure.
This tribute underscores the bipartisan respect for Busch’s impact on NASCAR and American sports culture.
NHL legend Jonathan Toews calls it a career after 16 seasons
Jonathan Toews announced his retirement from the NHL on Friday, closing a distinguished 16-season career highlighted by three Stanley Cup championships and a triumphant final chapter with his hometown Winnipeg Jets.
The 38-year-old center played all 82 games in 2025-26, recording 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 points after missing two seasons due to health challenges, including long COVID and chronic immune response syndrome.
Drafted third overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2006, Toews became the franchise’s captain at age 20 and led them to titles in 2010, 2013, and 2015. He earned the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in 2010 and the Selke Trophy as the league’s top defensive forward in 2013.
Over 1,149 regular-season games, he tallied 383 goals and 529 assists for 912 points, while adding 119 points in 137 playoff contests.
Internationally, Toews won Olympic gold medals with Canada in 2010 and 2014, becoming one of the youngest members of the Triple Gold Club. At his announcement in Winnipeg, he expressed gratitude and fulfillment.
“I have to say I’m satisfied; I’m fulfilled. I’m so thankful and grateful for the career I had,” Toews said during Friday’s announcement.
His legacy as a premier two-way leader and champion endures, with a likely Hall of Fame induction ahead.
Justin Verlander’s rough Detroit return takes another hit
Justin Verlander’s long-anticipated return to the Detroit Tigers’ rotation has hit another major obstacle.
The 43-year-old right-hander was scratched from his scheduled start on Sunday against the Chicago White Sox after suffering a left hamstring strain during a bullpen session in Houston on Wednesday.
Manager A.J. Hinch indicated the injury will sideline Verlander for weeks rather than days, requiring a full rehabilitation process.
“This is not a matter of days,” Hinch said, via The Athletic. “It’s a matter of weeks. We’re going to need a full rehab process to get him back to throwing again. Obviously, frustrating news for him and for us, given the excitement that was building around his start on Sunday.”
Verlander had been on the injured list (IL) since early April with left hip inflammation and was finally poised to make his first home start at Comerica Park since 2017.
In his only appearance this season on March 30, Verlander allowed five earned runs in 3 2/3 innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks. His recovery involved simulated games, two rehab starts at Triple-A Toledo, and additional bullpen work, but results were inconsistent.
Verlander expressed deep frustration, noting the consecutive injuries mark uncharted territory for him.
“I’ve always said I want to play until the wheels fall off,” he said, via the Detroit Free Press. “And I don’t know, maybe they are falling off. I hope not.”
Verlander remains committed to contributing for the remainder of the season on his one-year deal but acknowledged that larger decisions may await after the campaign.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope makes decision on Grizzlies future
Memphis Grizzlies guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has exercised his $21.6 million player option for the 2026-27 season, reports ESPN.
The decision keeps the veteran with the franchise for one more year as the final season of the three-year, $66 million contract he originally signed with the Orlando Magic.
Caldwell-Pope, 33, appeared in 51 games for the Grizzlies last season after being acquired in the Desmond Bane trade, averaging 8.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 21.3 minutes per game. He shot 41 percent from the field, 31.6 percent from three-point range and 91.3 percent from the free-throw line.
A season-ending surgery on his right pinky finger in February caused him to miss the final 31 games.
A 13-year NBA veteran and two-time champion with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020 and Denver Nuggets in 2023, Caldwell-Pope has long been regarded as a reliable 3-and-D contributor. While his production has dipped in recent seasons, particularly from beyond the arc, his decision ensures stability heading into the Grizzlies’ offseason plans.
He will enter unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2027.
Josh Hart pinpoints 1 crucial mistake that doomed Spurs in NBA Finals
Josh Hart believes the San Antonio Spurs lost the mental battle before the NBA Finals even tipped off.
The New York Knicks forward spoke candidly about the Spurs this week during a live episode of the “Roomates” podcast in Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, N.Y. Hart recounted the Knicks’ early exit last season, when his squad was upset by the Indiana Pacers.
Hart claimed the Knicks had been so focused on beating the Boston Celtics last year and were on too much of a high after doing so in the conference semifinals. He felt the Spurs went through a “similar” experience in their 7-game series against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“Everyone’s talking to them about, ‘Yo, they’ve got to beat OKC. OKC’s going to repeat,’” Hart said of the Spurs.
“They beat OKC. For a young team, I feel like that was the mountaintop for them. looked at [Jalen Brunson] and was like, ‘You see that reaction? They think they’re going to win it. They think it’s over.”
"You see that reaction because they think they gon' win it. They think it's over."

Josh Hart spoke about the Knicks watching the Spurs celebrate after beating OKC 👀@Roommates__Show special episode from MSG | 10 ET on ESPN and the ESPN App 🗽 pic.twitter.com/Cg8VFpem6o
Hart compared that to the Knicks’ reaction (or lack thereof) after they beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in a 4-0 sweep of the Eastern Conference Finals. He noted that the team found it “hard to celebrate” because they maintained the mindset of needing four more wins.
The Knicks remembered what happened last season and refused to let up the “0-0” mindset even when they were already a game away from winning it all. Therein lies the value of playoff experience.
If the Spurs once again win the West next season, Wembanyama probably wouldn’t be weeping tears of joy like he was after beating the Thunder last month.
Marshawn Lynch spotted as credentialed photographer at World Cup
Marshawn Lynch’s list of post-NFL side quests continues to grow with each passing year.
The Seattle Seahawks icon was in familiar territory on Friday night. Lynch was spotted on the field at Seattle Stadium (Lumen Field) in Seattle, Wash. But instead of striking fear into the hearts of opposing NFL defenses, Lynch was taking snapshots of Team USA’s FIFA World Cup match against Australia.
Lynch had a Canon camera in hand as the USMNT beat the Socceroos 2-0 to take hold of Group D.

Lynch probably didn’t want to get too close to the action this time around, or else risk a repeat of last year’s incident when he elbowed Seahawks running back George Holani.
There has been a surprising overlap between Seattle sports legends and credentialed sports photographers. Seattle Mariners superstar Ken Griffey Jr. has made waves of late for his skills behind the camera.
MMA fighter got knocked out cold 4 seconds into fight
Jose Aldo can now rest easy knowing someone else has him well beaten in the early KO department.
Legacy Fighting Alliance middleweight Jake Woodley (8-1-0) knocked out David Wright (6-3-0) just four seconds into their LFA 235 co-main event fight at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Ky. Woodley threw a wicked right haymaker that landed in the opening second of the bout, which immediately knocked Wright unconscious.
The referee instantly realized that Wright was out cold and stopped the fight before Woodley could do any more damage to his downed foe. Check out the vicious one-punch KO below.

The match timer had not even appeared yet when the punch landed. Woodley’s four-second KO was the fastest in Legacy Fighting Alliance and one of the quickest in MMA history bar none.
Woodley interestingly had UFC legend Holly Holm in his corner. The former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, who famously knocked out Ronda Rousey, may have given Woodley some effective advice about finishing a fight with flair.
Diamondbacks hit with yet another injury blow to All-Star pitcher
The Arizona Diamondbacks can’t catch a break when it comes to their pitching rotation.
Former All-Star pitcher Michael Soroka started Friday’s game against the Minnesota Twins at Chase Field in Phoenix, Ariz. Soroka got through all of one inning before he started feeling discomfort in his delivery.
Following a scoreless first, Soroka threw one warmup pitch before the top of the second inning and called for a trainer to take a look at him. He seemed to be testing out his left leg.

Soroka was removed from the game after just nine pitches thrown, which the Diamondbacks later clarified was due to posterior left hip discomfort.
Soroka entered Friday’s game as one of Arizona’s most dependable pitchers, with a 3.11 ERA and an 8-3 record across 14 starts this season.
The Diamondbacks lost starting pitcher Ryne Nelson to injury earlier this week. Nelson is expected to remain on the injured list as he recovers from a flexor muscle strain and UCL strain.
On top of the injuries to Nelson and Soroka, starter Corbin Burnes and reliever AJ Puk also suffered setbacks in their progression to return from Tommy John surgery last year.
Burnes was originally scheduled to return around the All-Star break, but was shut down to start the month due to a teres strain. The Diamondbacks ace is projected to return sometime in September, while Puk is expected to undergo an MRI in about four weeks as he deals with a capsule strain.
East contender eyeing All-Star consolation prize amid Giannis Antetokounmpo trade talks
The Detroit Pistons could land quite the consolation prize to help make a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade happen.
With Cade Cunningham clearly off the table, the Pistons do not have nearly enough tradable pieces to bid for the Milwaukee Bucks star. But last season’s No. 1 seed in the East is reportedly positioning itself to acquire Tyler Herro should the Miami Heat win the Giannis trade sweepstakes.
According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, Herro would have to be included in any trade that involves Antetokounmpo heading to South Beach. With the Bucks not interested in building around Herro, the Pistons are reportedly looking to facilitate a three-team deal in which Herro ends up in Detroit.
Per Stein, the Pistons would then provide the Heat with “a draft asset or two” to make Miami’s trade package for Giannis more attractive.
Detroit is in desperate need of more scoring to help take the offensive load off Cunningham.
Stein reported that the Pistons have also inquired about Kyrie Irving but were rebuffed by the Dallas Mavericks. Detroit also looked into a deal for Trey Murphy, whom the New Orleans Pelicans have attached a very high price tag to.
Herro may be the most cost-effective option for Pistons GM Trajan Langdon, should Miami’s offer for Antetokounmpo beat out all the rest.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has definitive take on Team USA’s chances at the World Cup
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has officially hopped on the U.S. Men’s National Team bandwagon at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The legendary Swedish striker was on FOX’s postgame panel Friday following Team USA’s win over Australia at Lumen Field in Seattle, Wash., to remain atop Group D. The Americans went ahead in the 11th minute courtesy of a Cameron Burgess own goal, then scored another via an Alex Freeman header on a deflected ball that hovered right in front of goal.
After the result, FOX host Rebecca Lowe asked Ibrahimovic for a succinct answer on Team USA’s chances to win it all. Ibra obliged.
Lowe: “Zlatan, I want one word from you. Can the US win this World Cup, yes or no?”
Ibrahimovic: “Yes.”
Zlatan has spoken.@Ibra_Official gives a one-word answer on whether the @USMNT can win the FIFA World Cup pic.twitter.com/FUkm6vShb7
— FOX Sports (@FOXSports) June 19, 2026
Ibrahimovic has never been afraid to speak his mind in the past. If he legitimately thought the World Cup hosts were pretenders, he would probably have said so.
The USMNT has been in fine form to start the World Cup, with two decisive wins over Paraguay and Australia to all but secure the top spot in Group D. The Americans won on Friday despite star winger Christian Pulisic being kept off the field by a lingering calf injury.
Pulisic got kicked in the back of the leg during the first half of last week’s match against Paraguay, which prompted head coach Mauricio Pochettino to keep him out for the second half. Despite the player and coach making it seem like the early substitution was precautionary, Pulisic still sat out the game against Australia.
Ibrahimovic and thousands of other soccer fans may be starting to think that could be Team USA’s year. But the USMNT would more than likely need Pulisic healthy and producing to make the prediction come true.
