Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry had an intriguing reaction to the team’s blockbuster trade for Jimmy Butler.
Warriors forward Draymond Green recounted the conversation he had with Curry after the Warriors went and got Butler at the trade deadline. According to Green, Curry suggested the upcoming stint with Butler essentially represents the team’s “last ride.”
“Steph, he looked like he got belief,” Green said on the latest edition of his podcast, “The Draymond Green Show.” “He looked at me and he said, ‘Man, it’s crazy because it just dawned on me that this is it. This is the last ride.’ It was an emotional moment.”

Curry’s comment makes sense. Butler signed a new contract with the Warriors that will keep him in the organization through 2026-27. Curry will be 39 by the time that contract expires, while Green will be 37. Realistically, that means they do not have much time left together, especially since Green has already put something of a timeline on his retirement. This essentially represents the Warriors’ last shot, at least with their current core.
Curry and Butler seem to believe they fit well together. Time will tell if they are correct, but Golden State is making an expensive bet that this is their best shot at one more title run.
The Warriors enter play Wednesday at 27-26, good enough for 10th in the Western Conference. They have work to do before they even solidify a playoff spot this season.
