WNBA GM went nuts after winning draft lottery for Paige Bueckers
The Dallas Wings are certain to make Paige Bueckers the No. 1 overall pick in Monday’s WNBA Draft. They have been waiting for the moment for quite a while, judging by newly-released video of their draft lottery win.
On Saturday, the Wings posted video of general manager Curt Miller reacting as the team won the draft lottery and the right to select Bueckers. The lottery took place on Nov. 17, but the team only shared the video publicly on Saturday.
It is safe to say Miller was overjoyed by the outcome, as he jumps around his office while screaming in excitement.
kinda excited for draft.

Miller and the Wings are not going to say it yet, but they likely knew exactly where they were going with the pick as soon as they won it. Bueckers is the No. 1 prospect in the WNBA Draft by some distance, and it would be a shock if they went with anyone else.
Bueckers is riding high after winning a title at UConn in her final game for the team. As a senior, she led the Huskies by averaging 19.9 points per game.
Rory McIlroy makes Masters history with incredible streak
Rory McIlroy made a remarkable run up the Masters leaderboard on Saturday with a historic start to the third round.
McIlroy came out scorching hot on Saturday at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. He posted a three on the first six holes, a stretch that included three birdies and an eagle.
That made McIlroy the first player in Masters history to start a round with six consecutive threes.

The highlight of McIlroy’s run was unquestionably his chip-in eagle on the par-5 2nd. The shot moved him alone atop the leaderboard.

The run left McIlroy with a three-shot lead over Bryson DeChambeau. His personal streak finally ended when he finally shot a four on the par-4 7th, but all that did was maintain the lead he had built for himself.
McIlroy gave something of a preview of this on Friday, when he took a big risk and it paid off for him. Everything he is doing seems to be working for him, and he is looking like a very real threat to win the elusive tournament for the first time in his career.
Tennessee coach has telling quote about Nico Iamaleava
Tennessee Volunteers coach Josh Heupel offered a telling quote about quarterback Nico Iamaleava’s NIL controversy and departure.
Heupel on Saturday discussed Iamaleava’s decision to enter the transfer portal after failing to come to a new NIL agreement with Tennessee. While Heupel stopped short of calling out Iamaleava, his comment about the quarterback’s decision certainly felt quite pointed.
“It’s the state of college football,” Heupel said. “At the end of the day, no one is ever bigger than the program. That includes me, too. We’ve got an opportunity. We’ve got a bunch of guys that will give their all for Tennessee.”

“It’s the state of college football. At the end of the day, no one is ever bigger than the program. That includes me, too. We’ve got an opportunity. We’ve got a bunch of guys that will give their all for Tennessee”
Whether meant that way or not, many read the last part of Heupel’s comments as a shot at Iamaleava. The implication is that the quarterback was focused on things other than the team, and the remaining Vols players do not share that lack of focus.
Heupel’s comments are somewhat backed by the fact that Iamaleava was a no-show at Friday’s practice as his NIL dispute wore on. That was said to be a major inflection point for Tennessee and a big incentive for the school to simply move on. If so, it certainly underlines Heupel’s message that the program has to come first.
Iamaleava was looking for a significant raise in his NIL deal before things went south with Tennessee. He will enter the transfer portal and look for a school that will give him what he wants. The Vols, on the other hand, seem perfectly comfortable moving on with no regrets.
LeBron James seemingly responds to criticism from Isiah Thomas
LeBron James issued an apparent response to criticism he received from NBA legend Isiah Thomas on Friday.
Thomas suggested James was being unprofessional by warming up without a shirt on prior to Friday’s game between the Lakers and Houston Rockets at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Ca. The criticism went viral and sparked plenty of debate online.
James certainly suggested he was aware of the criticism in a post after Friday’s game. The forward seemingly hinted at Thomas’ criticism by suggesting he was going to issue a rebuttal, but realized there was no point.
“Man I was going to say something but it’s useless at this point in my career!” James wrote before going on to congratulate coach JJ Redick on leading the Lakers to a 50-win campaign.
Man I was going to say something but it’s useless at this point in my career! Anyways more important CONGRATULATIONS JJ on a 50 win season in the WEST & Post Season nod! That’s 🔥🔥🔥🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🫡
— LeBron James (@KingJames) April 12, 2025
James certainly took issue with Thomas’ comments, but has very little to gain by engaging in a debate over them. Perhaps he learned something from the recent Stephen A. Smith debacle.
James scored 14 points with 8 assists in a 140-109 win over the Rockets on Friday. Obviously, he does not really need Thomas’ feedback on his warmup methods.
Apple TV made embarrassing Andrew McCutchen mistake during Pirates broadcast
Apple TV’s broadcast of Friday’s game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds featured a pretty brutal mistake.
During a third inning dugout interview, Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes discussed the leadership of outfielder Andrew McCutchen and the value of having McCutchen as a teammate. As Skenes spoke, the broadcast split-screened a shot of what was clearly supposed to be McCutchen, but was actually Pirates shortstop Oneil Cruz looking on from the dugout.
…..did apple tv really think this was Andrew McCutchen? I have no words. pic.twitter.com/0cM3zVXhAo
— Platinum Ke’Bryan (@PlatinumKey13) April 11, 2025
Nobody really acknowledged the awkward moment, made worse by the fact that McCutchen and Cruz do not look very alike. McCutchen used to have his trademark dreadlocks, but has not worn them for years.
Pirates fans were particularly bothered. Many found the mistake to be disrespectful to both McCutchen and Cruz.
Infuriating level of disrespect.
— Platinum Ke’Bryan (@PlatinumKey13) April 11, 2025
This is hardly the first case of mistaken identity by a television broadcast, but that does not make it any less awkward. The lack of acknowledgement only serves to make it stranger.
Apple TV has the rights to a weekly package of Friday MLB games, which has proven controversial among some fans. The quality of broadcasts is fine, but errors like this will not exactly endear them to fans.
Nuggets may not trade Michael Porter Jr. for unusual reason
Big changes have already started for the Denver Nuggets, and more are likely coming this offseason. Whatever those changes look like, they may not include Michael Porter Jr.
Porter has been the subject of trade rumors for some time, and that chatter might accelerate if the team makes changes to the roster this offseason. However, the forward might be insulated from the changes for one unusual reason. According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, Denver ownership, led by Stan and Josh Kroenke, has a deep affection for Porter stemming from his ties to the state of Missouri.
Porter played at Missouri in college, and both of the Kroenkes went to the school as well. As a result, sources told Stein they “struggled to envision ownership ever approving a deal” that would move Porter.

“The Kroenkes have a fondness for Porter that stems from deep ties to their shared alma mater: Missouri. Sources with knowledge of Denver's thinking have… pic.twitter.com/QNhGCMj8jd
If the Nuggets did make wholesale roster changes, Porter had been seen as one of those most likely to be involved. He even predicted the issue arising before the start of this season. If not him, it gets more difficult to envision who moves, as Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon are both signed to expensive long-term contracts.
Porter is having a solid season for Denver. He is averaging 18.1 points per game while shooting 39.3% from three-point range, and has firmly established himself as the team’s third option on offense. That has not been enough to fend off sweeping organizational changes this week, with more to come.
Worrying update emerges about Jaylen Brown’s health
A concerning update has emerged regarding the health of Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown.
Brown underwent pain management injections this week to try to alleviate the issues he is experiencing with his right knee, according to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.
Brown is dealing with a bone bruise in his knee, with the issue becoming particularly troublesome recently. He has missed each of the team’s last two games as he tries to manage the injury.
The injections were meant to promote healing with the NBA Playoffs looming, according to the report. Brown is still expected to be ready to play when the postseason begins.
The Celtics had to be hoping Brown’s injury would be improving by this point, but that does not appear to be the case. He has not played 30 minutes in a game since March 12. He has missed six games since that point and has struggled when he has played, averaging a modest 16.4 points per game dating back to that point.
The Celtics have endured a few injury scares lately. Brown’s is the one that has lingered the most, but even with that issue, they have won 60 games and locked up the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. Despite that, if Brown is not close to full health, their mission to repeat as NBA champions will become a lot tougher.
Titans’ L’Jarius Sneed sued over shooting
Tennessee Titans cornerback L’Jarius Sneed is being sued over his alleged involvement in a shooting at a car dealership.
Christian Nshimiyimana, owner of an exotic car rental business, filed a $1 million lawsuit against Sneed, claiming that either Sneed or his personal assistant shot at Nshimiyimana at a dealership in December, according to Turron Davenport of ESPN.
Nshimiyimana claimed he was sitting inside a Mercedes-Benz at a dealer lot in Carrollton, Tx. when he was shot at by a passing Lamborghini Urus. No one was struck by any of the bullets.
The suit claims that Sneed and his accomplice were arrested at the time for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and that Sneed later threatened Nshimiyimana to try to stop him from cooperating with police. It is said to be possible that Sneed and his assistant mistakenly believed Nshimiyimana was someone else.
A police report does exist for the incident, but much of the information within it has been redacted when released to the public. The Titans said in a statement they are aware of the allegations, but had no further comment at this time.
Sneed was traded to the Titans from the Kansas City Chiefs last offseason after a contract dispute. The trade was a bust for Tennessee, at least in the first season, as he only played five games last season before landing on injured reserve due to a quad injury.
Report: Tennessee makes major decision on QB Nico Iamaleava
Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava has been seeking a new NIL deal from the school, and it does not sound like he is going to get one.
The Volunteers have decided to move on from Iamaleava, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports. Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel informed the team of the decision on Saturday morning.
Iamaleava was a no-show at spring practice on Friday without giving the team any advanced notice, which was said to be the driving force behind Tennessee wanting to go in another direction.
Tennessee hosts its annual spring game today. Iamaleava will not be present. There’s been little communication between the sides since he missed practice. He’s expected to enter the portal when it opens next week.
— Pete Thamel (@PeteThamel) April 12, 2025
Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports added that Iamaleava is planning to enter the transfer portal.
Iamaleava and Tennessee had reportedly been in talks about a new NIL deal. The quarterback wanted to remain with the Volunteers but is unhappy with his compensation package. It sounds like Heupel and the Vols had no tolerance for what was essentially the equivalent of an NFL player holding out for a new contract.
Iamaleava’s current NIL deal is reportedly worth between $2.2 million and $2.5 million. The sophomore wants a raise after other top quarterbacks across the country have secured more money than him.
In his first year as a full-time starter last season, Iamaleava threw for 2,616 yards with 19 touchdown passes and 5 interceptions. He also rushed for 358 yards and 3 scores. Iamaleava helped lead Tennessee to the College Football Playoff.
The spring transfer portal window opens on April 16.
Anthony Edwards could be suspended for Timberwolves’ final game of season
The Minnesota Timberwolves will have a lot at stake in their final game of the regular season on Sunday, and they could be without their best player for the contest.
Anthony Edwards was assessed his 18th technical foul of the year during the Timberwolves’ 117-91 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night at Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn. Unless the technical foul is rescinded, Edwards will receive an automatic one-game suspension.
Edwards was whistled for the technical after he questioned a personal foul that was called against him while he was guarding Keon Johnson midway through the second quarter. Crew chief Bill Kennedy told a pool reporter after the game that Edwards used profanity toward referee Ray Acosta.
It didn’t look like Edwards did much, but apparently what he said was the issue.

Edwards admitted after the game that he used profanity while questioning the call. He said he is hopeful the NBA will rescind the technical, however.
“I tried to play good defense. They called a foul,” Edwards said, via The Associated Press. “And he gave me a tech. I hope they look at it and rescind it, so I can play in a couple days.”
Edwards added that he did not feel he deserved a technical foul for “just that little gesture.” Timberwolves coach Chris Finch agreed, telling reporters that he did not believe “there was anything egregious or overly demonstrative.”
Under NBA rules, a player or coach who receives 16 technical fouls in a season is automatically suspended for one game. Every two additional technical fouls after that trigger another one-game suspension. Edwards picked up his 16th technical in February over his role in an altercation with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Western Conference standings are extremely tight. The Timberwolves are in seventh heading into Sunday’s season finale against the Utah Jazz, but they could wind up as high as fourth or as low as eighth. That would be the difference between home-court advantage in the opening round or potentially having to play a play-in game.
The Jazz are tied for the worst record in the NBA at 17-64, but Minnesota would still prefer to have Edwards on the floor for their extremely important final game.
JJ Redick channels Kobe Bryant to sum up his first Lakers season
Kobe Bryant would probably be smiling if he heard JJ Redick’s take on his first season as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.
On Friday, the Lakers beat the Houston Rockets 140-109 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Calif. The win was Redick’s 50th as an NBA coach and secured his team the third seed in the competitive Western Conference.
The Lakers celebrated appropriately after the game. The players showered Redick with buckets of ice water in the locker room to congratulate their coach on the achievement. Redick’s hair was still dripping wet as he spoke to reporters during his postgame press conference.
When asked to give a self-assessment on his first season, Redick was not in a celebratory mood. He instead paid homage to Kobe Bryant by delivering a familiar quote.
“It’s not done,” answered Redick. “I spent all of three-and-a-half minutes on the flight back from Dallas just thinking about making the playoffs and thinking about the coaching profession. I think, as a coach, you’re obviously judged on regular season wins and losses and your ability to get to the playoffs.
“But I think the other things you’re really judged on are the way you’re able to handle the pressure of the playoffs. The adjustments, the in-game stuff. There’s still so much work that we have to do.”

MY HEAD COACH HAS THAT MAMBA MENTALITY 💜💛💜
Kobe would have loved to have seen JJ and Luka Doncic on this team led by LeBron 😭 pic.twitter.com/Z8C8nUJ6KZ
With the Lakers up 2-0 during the 2009 NBA Finals, Bryant famously told the media during his Game 2 postgame press conference that “the job’s not finished.” Redick seemed to be channeling a similar mentality about his success in Year 1 as the Lakers’ coach.
The Lakers had failed to record 50 wins since the team won the title in 2020. The purple and gold had never finished better than seventh in the West during that span.
Some may discount what Redick was able to do this season, given that he was blessed with the midseason arrival of Luka Doncic. But the Lakers were on the rise and had a 31-19 record even before Doncic ever suited up for the Lakers.
Redick had never coached at any level apart from a brief stint as a volunteer head coach for his son’s fourth-grade boys’ basketball team. Now he has aspirations of lifting up the Larry O’Brien trophy at season’s end.
Dak Prescott shares significant update on his hamstring injury
Dak Prescott sounds more than ready to put his major hamstring injury behind him.
Prescott’s 2024 season came to an abrupt end after he tore his hamstring in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons. It’s been a long yet steady road to recovery for the Dallas Cowboys quarterback.
In March, Prescott had yet to be cleared for full contact. While his progression had been going according to plan, Prescott was still unable to run at full speed at that point in his recovery.
Over the last month, Prescott has made significant strides toward getting back to full health. On Friday, Prescott made a telling claim to Fort Worth Star-Telegram reporter Nick Harris about where he is in his recovery.
“If I had to play a game today, I definitely could do that,” Prescott told Harris. “It’s about moving forward healthy to make sure I can play 17-20 times when the time is right.”
With about five months to go before the Cowboys’ 2025 season opener, Prescott will have plenty of time to ease himself back into action. The Cowboys star has also made waves for losing a significant amount of weight as he works his way back from injury.
Prescott has been training on his own at a local high school in Celina, Texas ahead of the team’s organized team activities (OTAs) in May. Prescott said that he plans to be “involved in some sort, if not all” of the team’s OTAs when the time comes.
The Cowboys star has also made waves for losing a significant amount of weight as he works his way back from injury.
Unexpected NBA player pulls off sick self-oop off the glass
Oklahoma City Thunder big man Jaylin Williams had a game to remember Friday against the Utah Jazz.
With the Thunder having already secured the best record in the NBA, the team was able to rest its starters versus the Jazz at Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Williams made his eighth start of the season against a Jazz lineup featuring mostly rookies and sophomores.
Williams, a “grizzled veteran” with three years of NBA experience, truly looked a cut above his competitors. The Arkansas alum did his best Nikola Jokic impression, tallying 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists on 5/7 shooting from the floor.
But unlike Jokic, Williams also flashed his athleticism with a highlight dunk late in the third quarter. Williams slipped between two defenders to get an open look in the paint. Instead of hoisting up a hook shot or floater, the crafty center went full Tracy McGrady mode. He tossed the ball off the glass and caught his own lob for a powerful two-handed dunk.

Williams did not hesitate for a second to attempt the unorthodox alley-oop, which shows his unique ability to process the game from the center position.
J-Will has recorded a triple-double in each of his last three starts. He has more triple-doubles in that span alone than superstars like Allen Iverson, Kawhi Leonard, Shaq, and even Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have in their entire careers.
Despite the Thunder sitting several key players, Williams and the rest of the team’s bench mob still picked up a 145-111 victory over the tanking Jazz.
Rockies outfielder makes acrobatic catch to save fan
Colorado Rockies right fielder Nick Martini may be getting a call from USA Gymnastics in the near future.
On Friday, Martini put on an incredible balancing act during the Rockies’ afternoon game against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park in San Diego, Calif. During the bottom of the third inning, Martini tracked a foul ball off the bat of Padres outfielder Jason Heyward all the way to the fence in foul ground.
The ball was about to fall near an unsuspecting fan standing next to the railing. The fan, who seemed to be on her phone, only noticed the ball hurtling toward her when it was too late to move away.
Luckily for the fan, Martini came to her rescue.
Nick Martini with the balancing act! 🤯 pic.twitter.com/DWUVGT3rjl
— MLB (@MLB) April 12, 2025
The six-year MLB veteran dove past the railing to make the catch and prevent the ball from potentially hitting the fan. The momentum would have sent Martini over the fence had it not been for his elite balance and core strength. Kudos to the fan as well for trying to help boost her knight in shining armor back onto the field.
Given how low the ground was past the railing, Martini could have legitimately gotten himself hurt had he not managed to break his fall.
Last week, Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles made a similar catch over the right-field fence. But Robles suffered a serious shoulder injury to make the play.
LeBron James slammed by Isiah Thomas over ‘unprofessional’ stunttl
Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas on Friday criticized LeBron James for his attire (or lack thereof) while warming up for the Los Angeles Lakers’ game against the Houston Rockets.
Thomas was part of the halftime show panel for NBA TV’s broadcast of Friday’s Milwaukee Bucks-Detroit Pistons game. As the panel previewed the Lakers-Rockets game, a shirtless James was shown taking warm-up shots a couple of hours before tip-off at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Calif.
The scene did not sit well with Thomas. The Detroit Pistons icon laid into James, branding him unprofessional for his pregame stunt.
“I just totally, 100% object to this,” said Thomas. “If I was the GM or coach, I would never let one of my players walk out on the floor looking like this. We are a professional NBA league. We ain’t summer league. We ain’t at the YMCA. Professionalism in our NBA league has diminished so much.
“I just think the professionalism in our NBA league has diminished so much. Look, I like LeBron, I’m a fan of his. … But to walk out on the floor before a game with no shirt on, come on, man. Where we at?”

Thomas even called for NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to fine James for the act.
Very few players would openly call out James in the manner Thomas did. But Zeke has proven time and again that he’s not afraid to be at odds with the league’s marquee players, past or present. Thomas’ never-ending beef with Michael Jordan is proof of that.
Cameron Young had complete putting meltdown at Masters
Cameron Young failed to make the cut at the Masters, and a complete putting meltdown did not help his case.
Young shot a 7-over 79 in the second round of the Masters on Friday to bring his two-day total to 7-over. Anyone who scored worse than 2-over par over the first two rounds was cut.
Young was looking pretty good through his first 11 holes at Augusta National in Georgia on Friday. He had shot 1-over on the front nine and then picked up a birdie on the 10th hole to get back to par. He unfortunately double-bogeyed 12, bogeyed 14, and then everything unraveled on the par-3 16th hole. Young four-putted his way to a triple-bogey in a surreal scene.
Pros: They're just like us pic.twitter.com/7cQ6jdRSra
— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) April 11, 2025
That was hard to watch. After missing his initial putt, he was so casual with his second one for tap-in that he forgot to get lined up. Then he blew it on the next attempt for the same reason before he finally decided to hunker down, focus and make it on his 6th shot of the hole.
The wheels had completely come off for Young after that and he bogeyed 17 and 18 to finish with his 7-over 79.
If anything, that should provide some level of comfort to fans who might not feel so badly about enduring similar heartbreak on the course.
Luis Severino makes surprising admission about his Mets exit
Former New York Mets pitcher Luis Severino on Friday shared just how much he had wanted to stay with the team during the offseason.
Severino signed a three-year contract with the Athletics in December following a bounce-back 2024 campaign with the Mets. He had a 3.91 ERA with 161 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.24 across 31 starts.
The Dominican right-hander spoke to reporters Friday before the Athletics’ three-game series against the Mets over the weekend. Severino was asked whether or not the Mets made him a legitimate offer to return.
“I don’t want to say they did,” Severino said. “But I was trying to stay with the Mets. I actually asked for less money to stay there. But like I said before, I was not in their plans. At the beginning, I was shocked. But at the end, I knew that it’s a business and they need to take care of other stuff.
“I told my agent. I asked for two years and $40 million. 20 [million] a year. I was getting 22 [million from the Athletics] for three years. I knew it was going to be less money.”

Severino cited his familiarity with the trainers and the environment in New York as a big reason why he had wanted to stay. Before his brief stint with the Mets, Severino spent the first nine years of his career with the New York Yankees.
Severino shared that the most the Mets were willing to offer him was a deal similar to the one they gave another former Yankees player, Frankie Montas. The Mets signed Montas a two-year pact for about $34 million.
In all fairness to the Mets, Severino’s big-money deal from the Athletics may have been due to factors beyond his performance on the mound.
Saints meet with quarterback draft prospect day of Carr news
The New Orleans Saints met with a quarterback draft prospect on Friday, the same day news about Derek Carr’s injury went public.
A report on Friday said that Carr has a shoulder injury that could require surgery and cause him to miss the season. The Saints could consider drafting at quarterback with the No. 9 pick (or a later pick), or they could look into some veteran QB options. Whether or not the timing is coincidence, we do know that the Saints are looking into draft prospects.
New Orleans Times-Picayune columnist Jeff Duncan reported on Friday that the Saints met with quarterback Tyler Shough that day.
Louisville QB Tyler Shough made a Top 30 visit to the Saints today. Interesting that it happened on the same day the Derek Carr injury news breaks.
— Jeff Duncan (@JeffDuncan_) April 11, 2025
Shough is familiar to many college football fanbases. He began his college career in 2018 and spent his first three years with Oregon. Then he transferred to Texas Tech for three seasons. Shough transferred a second time and spent last season with Louisville. He passed for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns and 6 interceptions while helping the Cardinals go 9-4.
Shough took a redshirt year in 2018, then received a medical redshirt year, and gained an extra year of eligibility due to the shortened 2020 season, which helps explain how he was in college for so long.
In addition to meeting with Shough, the Saints are favored to draft an intriguing QB.
Dylan Cease looks unrecognizable after shaving off his facial hair
Dylan Cease is trying anything and everything that he can to shake off his early-season blues.
The San Diego Padres ace Cease shocked the baseball world this week by shaving off his trademark beard and mustache. Padres teammate Jackson Merrill posted the stunning photo of a clean-cut Cease to Instagram on Friday.
Take a look below.
Here is a side-by-side of Cease now compared to what he looked like in his photo at media day this year.
The 29-year-old righty Cease debuted with the Chicago White Sox in 2019. He had been sporting a signature mustache for much of his MLB career and then added the full beard after he was traded to the Padres in 2024.
Facial hair had been Cease’s friend for much of his run in the bigs. Known for having some of the best swing-and-miss stuff in baseball, Cease made All-MLB teams in 2022 and 2024 and also threw a no-hitter for the Padres in July of last year.
But this season has been a very different story for Cease. In his first three starts of 2025, Cease has allowed an MLB-high 13 earned runs and thus holds a brutal 7.98 ERA.
Even despite Cease’s struggles though, the rest of the Padres have been picking up the slack, and thus the team is currently leading the loaded NL West division at 10-3. Cease will be hoping to join the party soon too by becoming the latest baseball player to trim off his facial hair to try to turn his luck around.
Derek Carr could be out for season due to injury
Derek Carr’s season could be over before it even begins.
NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported on Friday that Carr is dealing with a shoulder injury that could prevent him from playing this season. According to Rapoport, surgery is an option for Carr.
The news on Carr has come out three days before players were set to report for the team’s offseason program.
Carr signed with the New Orleans Saints in March 2023, a few weeks after being released by the Las Vegas Raiders. He’s entering the third year of a four-year, $150 million contract. Carr modified his contract in March to drop his cap hit for 2025 to $20.4 million. He has a $40 million base salary for 2026 with a $69 million cap hit for that season.
Carr has played two seasons with the Saints. He has passed for 6,023 yards, 40 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 27 games with the team. The Saints have gone 14-13 in his starts.
Carr’s injury means the Saints will have to explore options for the upcoming season. They have the No. 9 pick in the upcoming draft. They could also look into veterans such as Aaron Rodgers or Kirk Cousins.
Now it’s starting to make more and more sense why the Saints have become the favorites to select a certain quarterback in the draft.
