A familiar face has been pegged as a favorite to replace Mike Gundy at Oklahoma State.
Gundy was fired last week after 21 seasons as the head coach at Oklahoma State. The move was announced after the Cowboys’ record dropped to 1-2 following a 19-12 loss to Tulsa.
Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson is reportedly “expected to be on the very short list” of candidates to take Gundy’s place in Stillwater. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the program’s interest in Robinson, but noted that there has yet to be contact between the two sides.
Oklahoma State fans are keenly familiar with Robinson, who played quarterback for the Cowboys from 2006 to 2009.
Robinson was arguably the best dual-threat QB in Oklahoma State history. He threw for 8,317 yards with 66 touchdowns and 31 interceptions across four seasons with the Cowboys. He also rushed for 1,858 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Robinsons nabbed the starting job during his sophomore year in 2007 and helped Gundy turn Oklahoma State into a consistent winner. Robinson’s arrival at OSU marked the start of 18 straight winning seasons under Gundy.
The streak ended last season, when Oklahoma State finished 3-9 and failed to qualify for a bowl game. The result forced Gundy to take a pay cut heading into the 2025 season.
