Drew Brees unsure why contract talks with Saints have not progressed

Drew-Brees

It has now been three months since Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints had constructive negotiations about a restructured contract, and the quarterback does not know why.

Brees has one year remaining on his deal, and the Saints seem uninterested in renegotiating his $30 million cap hit.

“Not sure why things have not progressed,” Brees said, via Mike Triplett of ESPN. “They made an offer in March, we made an offer shortly thereafter. And besides the Josh Norman deal, there has been no talk about a contract since.”

Brees will not negotiate during the season and has made the season opener a deadline to get something done.

“I would say the deadline is the start of the regular season, not training camp,” Brees said.

Brees has tried and failed to get something done far before this. He even tried to restructure to help bring in a top free agent, but it didn’t happen. It seems hard to believe the Saints will let this go down to the wire, but New Orleans appears to be dragging their feet.
