Drew Brees spotted in walking boot after Lions loss
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees suffered a foot injury during his team’s loss to the Detroit Lions Monday night, and he was in enough pain that he needed a walking boot after the game.
Brees, who was sporting a substantial limp from the first quarter on, said he was unsure of what happened.
“I dont know what we got going here,” he told reporters, per Nick Underhill of The Advocate. “We’ll know more tomorrow after the MRI. We’ll see.”
Brees played remarkably well considering he was hurt. The Saints trailed 28-3 at one point but nearly completed a comeback, eventually losing 35-27 after Brees completed 34-of-52 passes for 341 yards and three touchdowns.
New Orleans is out of playoff contention, so there will be plenty of questioning why a 36-year-old Brees remained in a meaningless game when he was clearly in pain. Brees also suffered a shoulder injury on an ugly-looking hit earlier this season (video here) and missed a game.
If there is anything structurally wrong with Brees’ foot (he’ll have an MRI on Monday), it would be a surprise if he plays in the final game of the regular season. There’s no reason to risk it.
