Ex-Browns receiver unhappy with ‘Hard Knocks’ portrayal

Corey Coleman

Former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Corey Coleman thinks he was the victim of some manipulative editing when featured on “Hard Knocks.”

Coleman was a brief focus of the HBO show, which depicted him as someone prone to mental errors and giving less than max effort, earning him the constant ire of offensive coordinator Todd Haley. Coleman ended up practicing with the second string before ultimately challenging the Browns to trade him, which they did, sending him to the Buffalo Bills.

After Coleman’s new team beat his old one in Friday’s preseason game, the receiver blamed the show for making him look bad.

“You know with all that, I’m going to take the high road,” Coleman said, via Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com. “Y’all can see for y’all self. You know, pretty much, how stuff worked out. Like I said, I’m going to take the high road. I just laugh at it, because it’s kind of funny. They should have showed the whole thing if they were going to show it.”

Cabot added that Coleman’s portrayal on the show, as well as his demeanor since joining the team, had made a bad first impression on some in Buffalo. Perhaps the show was unfair to him, but he seems to have gained a reputation that is sticking for now. Between that and this infamous play, Browns fans won’t be sorry to see him depart.
