Ezekiel Elliott: I could make ‘most immediate impact’ with Cowboys
Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott seems like a lock for the top 10 in the NFL Draft, and he is hopeful he could be taken as high as fourth overall when the Dallas Cowboys pick.
In a conference call with reporters on Friday, Elliott said he is excited over the thought of possibly running behind the Cowboys’ dominant offensive line.
“Definitely it does get me excited,” he said, per Todd Archer of ESPN.com. “Who doesn’t want to run through big holes? I think that would be a place I could make the most immediate impact. It would be good for me to go in, learn from a lot of veterans, a lot of superstars, and I think it would be a good experience.”
Dallas has such good players on its offensive line that Darren McFadden ran for more than 1,000 yards behind them last season. In 2014, DeMarco Murray had a breakout season with 1,845 yards. The Cowboys have already signed Alfred Morris this offseason, but drafting a power runner like Elliott could be a solid investment.
“I believe we do have a good chemistry between myself and the Cowboys,” Elliott said of his meeting with Dallas at the combine. “I’ve got to spend a lot of time with the coaches. I’ve known (offensive coordinator Scott Linehan) since I was younger. I played sports against his son in St. Louis. That’s a weird connection. Shows you how small the world is.”
If the Cowboys choose to draft a quarterback (something they are clearly considering), it sounds like Elliott is unlikely to slip below the No. 8 pick.
