John Fox is out of a job in Denver but says he wants to continue his NFL coaching career. With him on the market, things have changed for teams with head coaching vacancies. After all, Fox has led two separate teams to the Super Bowl and has had success in two different places — Denver and Carolina. He is experienced and proven. He is a strong candidate. And speculation is building that he could be perfect for the Bears.
Chicago just hired a first-time GM, Ryan Pace, and the speculation is that they want to pair him with an experienced head coach. That’s why people thought Gary Kubiak could be perfect for the job. Kubiak has said he is not interested in leaving his position as offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens, meaning Chicago has to move on. They could be getting someone even better.
NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport mentioned that Fox could be a good fit for the Bears:

Rapoport also says Fox is very close with Sean Payton, who worked with Pace in New Orleans, meaning all the info he could want on Pace would be easy to obtain.
Lastly, Ernie Accorsi was hired as a consultant by the Bears to help with the team’s GM hiring. The New York Post’s Paul Schwartz reports that back when Accorsi was GM of the Giants, he wanted to hire Fox. Perhaps Accorsi could advocate for the hiring of Fox.
