Report reveals whether Jets want Aaron Rodgers back in 2025
The New York Jets will enter the offseason searching for a new head coach and general manager, which has left many wondering if Aaron Rodgers’ future with the team is secure. One reporter believes a quarterback change is inevitable as well.
Shortly after the Jets announced on Tuesday that they have fired general manager Joe Douglas, SNY’s Connor Hughes reported that he was told by sources that the team “prefers to move on from Rodgers, too.”
Hughes later spoke about how Rodgers wanted to play for the Jets because of his familiarity with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett’s system. With Hackett almost certain to be fired as well, Rodgers might not want to return to New York, anyway.
“It’s very clear now that this organization is also gonna want to find a new quarterback as well, that the Aaron Rodgers tenure with the Jets is gonna be over,” Hughes said. “They’re not gonna find a coach hand-picked by him. If you think about why Aaron Rodgers came here in the first place, he came here because Nathaniel Hackett was already here. He didn’t want new. He didn’t want different. He didn’t want to be overly challenged. He wanted what he knew and what he was comfortable with.”

Rodgers has not been anything near what the Jets had hoped he would be when they acquired him in a trade with the Green Bay Packers prior to last season. Obviously, the torn Achilles he suffered in Week 1 last year has been a huge factor in that. But the reality is Rodgers will soon turn 41, so what you see from him now is probably what you’re going to get moving forward.
Rodgers has thrown for 2,442 yards, 17 touchdowns and 7 interceptions this season. He recently made his stance on playing next year fairly clear, though he has not indicated whether he would be open to suiting up for a new team.
