‘Jeopardy!’ contestant embarrasses himself with Caitlin Clark answer
Caitlin Clark has taken the sports world by storm, but apparently the rest of the world still has a good amount of catching up to do.
During the episode of the popular ABC quiz show “Jeopardy!” that aired on Wednesday, a contestant completely embarrassed himself on a clue in the category “Sporty Stuff.” The $800 clue displayed an image of former UConn and current Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers and said, “This UConn star had an intense spring in 2025, playing on her first national championship team and being picked first in the WNBA Draft.”
Contestant Rahul Kak, a law student from New York, buzzed in with “Who is Caitlin Clark?” That was very obviously wrong though, and no other contestant managed to buzz in with the correct response either.
Here is the painful video.
There was some confusion of women's hoops stars in Wednesday night's "Jeopardy!"

Caitlin Clark or Paige Bueckers?pic.twitter.com/EMS9hULbYL
In fairness to Kak, the Indiana Fever superstar Clark is probably the one WNBA player that you should know above all right now, and she was a former No. 1 overall pick herself (albeit in 2024). But Clark does not bear any resemblance whatsoever to Bueckers and famously played her college ball at Iowa instead of at UConn.
Interestingly enough, Clark and Bueckers still have yet to face off at the WNBA level. That could change very soon though with an upcoming matchup between Indiana and Dallas that recently earned itself a notable venue change.
Update emerges on how long Jeanie Buss will remain in charge of Lakers
Despite transitioning out of her role as a majority owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, Jeanie Buss will still apparently be finishing out the decade as the team’s lead decision-maker.
Buss will remain as the Lakers’ governor for at least the next five seasons, Sam Amick of The Athletic reported on Wednesday. The stipulation comes as a part of the Buss family’s official agreement with Mark Walter, who is set to become the Lakers’ new majority owner.
Last month, Buss and her siblings made the stunning decision to sell their majority stake in the franchise to Walter, the billionaire CEO of Guggenheim Partners who already serves as the primary owner and chairman of MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers. The two sides agreed on a deal at a record-shattering $10 billion valuation of the franchise.
Dr. Jerry Buss, the late Buss family patriarch, purchased the Lakers back in 1979 for a sum of $67.5 million. When he died in Feb. 2013 at the age of 80, ownership of the Lakers passed along to his six children in equal shares via a trust. Now in 2025, the six children have unanimously decided to sell their controlling stake in the team.
As for Jeanie specifically, she is the one who was appointed by her father to serve as the Lakers’ governor and team representative in NBA Board of Governors meetings upon his death. Though Jeanie had some ugly power disputes with her siblings in years past, she has since solidified her position as the team’s undisputed lead decision-maker.
Five more seasons in charge (at the very least) will take Jeanie through the 2029-30 NBA season. Jeanie’s decisions have not always been popular with the Lakers fanbase, but those hoping to wait out her tenure as the head honcho of the team will have to keep on waiting for a while longer.
Livvy Dunne says she was denied in bid to buy Babe Ruth’s old apartment
Livvy Dunne apparently got stiff-armed in her attempts to purchase an apartment that once belonged to The Great Bambino.
The gymnastics star Dunne revealed in a post this week to her roughly 8 million followers on TikTok that she was denied in her bid to buy Babe Ruth’s old apartment in New York City. Dunne, 22, said the apartment was supposed to be her very first real estate purchase and that she was even ready to pay for the apartment in cash because she wanted it “bad.”
But Dunne said that she got a call the week that she was supposed to get her keys to the apartment and learned that the co-op board had denied her in an official vote. You can see her full TikTok video explaining the situation here.
David K. Li of NBC News notes that the late New York Yankees icon Ruth lived in the apartment from 1920-40. The apartment is located in the Upper West Side and is a three-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom unit that had been listed at $1.595 million.
Dunne is already budding baseball royalty in a sense thanks to her highly-publicized relationship with Pittsburgh Pirates pitching sensation Paul Skenes. She even noted in her video that Skenes had already been to the apartment with her and that she had even already hired an interior designer to work with them.
However, the apartment’s co-op board apparently put the kibosh on any possibility of a Ruth-to-Skenes apartment lineage. Dunne noted in the video that it is possible that the co-op board simply didn’t want a famous public figure living there and bringing fanfare and commotion along with them. But Dunne is clearly disappointed about being unable to purchase the old living quarters of The Sultan of Swat, adding to what has already been a trying last couple of months for her.
Mavericks hiring former Jason Kidd teammate
The Dallas Mavericks are bringing in a guy who goes way back with head coach Jason Kidd.
Ex-NBA forward Ronald “Popeye” Jones has agreed to join the Mavericks coaching staff, veteran NBA writer Marc Stein reported on Wednesday. Jones has been an assistant coach in the NBA for the last decade-and-a-half and had spent the last four years on the Denver Nuggets’ coaching staff (but was recently let go after Denver decided to clean house).
Additionally, Jones, 55, has plenty of history with Kidd and the Mavericks. He played for the Mavericks from 1993-96 and again from 2002-03. Jones’ first stint coincided with that of Kidd, who played in Dallas from 1994-96 (and again from 2008-12). The two played together on the Mavericks under then-head coach Dick Motta.
Now that Kidd is himself the head coach of the Mavericks, he is putting together a star-studded assistant coaching staff for next season. Kidd recently added a former NBA champion head coach to serve as his lead assistant and picked up a couple of other notable names as well.
Dallas went just 39-43 last season and could be without All-Star guard Kyrie Irving (left ACL tear) for all of next season. But with the likes of Anthony Davis and Klay Thompson still leading the charge plus the additions of No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg in the draft and former All-Star D’Angelo Russell in free agency, there is a lot of reason to be optimistic about the Mavericks moving forward.
As for Jones, he also previously served as an assistant coach for the Nets, the Pacers, and the 76ers. Now Jones will be running it back in Dallas under his former ’90s NBA teammate Kidd.
Ex-NBA lottery pick gets sizable jail sentence after rape conviction
Former NBA guard Ben McLemore has been handed a fairly large prison sentence after being convicted of rape earlier this week.
McLemore was officially sentenced to 100 months (eight years and four months) in jail by a Clackamas County Circuit Court judge on Wednesday, ESPN’s Baxter Holmes reported. The news comes after McLemore was convicted by a jury last week on three total charges, including first-degree rape.
The charges stemmed from a Oct. 2021 incident at a house party in Lake Oswego, Ore. McLemore had been accused of sexually assaulting a 21-year-old woman at the party, which was held at the house of McLemore’s former NBA teammate Robert Covington.
The woman in the case testified that she had been drinking heavily at the party and passed out. She says that she then partially regained consciousness in the morning when McLemore sexually penetrated her with his fingers before proceeding to have sex with her. McLemore also testified that he had been drinking but claimed the encounter had been consensual.
In the end, Clackamas County Circuit Court found McLemore guilty on the charges of first-degree rape, first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, and second-degree sexual abuse. McLemore was however found not guilty on a fourth charge (full details here).
Now 32 years old, McLemore played in college for the Kansas Jayhawks before going with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft to the Sacramento Kings. He spent nine total seasons in the NBA with Sacramento, the Memphis Grizzlies, the Houston Rockets, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Portland Trail Blazers.
McLemore, who is set to serve his sentence in Oregon state prison, last played in an NBA game with the Blazers in Apr. 2022. He had since gone on to continue his pro career overseas, playing in China, Greece, Spain, and Turkey in more recent years.
Angel Reese explains herself over clipboard-smacking incident
Angel Reese had something to say for herself after her recent unflattering episode.
The Chicago Sky star Reese got frustrated towards the end of Tuesday’s loss to the Washington Mystics at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Va. Reese was upset over a crucial late foul call with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter and, as she was walking into the timeout huddle, smacked a clipboard out of Sky assistant coach Ann Crosby’s hands in anger.
You can see the video of the incident here.
In a post to her X page after the game, which Chicago narrowly lost to Washington 81-79, Reese explained herself. Reese said that it was “in the heat of the moment” and noted that Crosby told her not to apologize for it.
“Those **** were pissing me off,” Reese said, in apparent reference to the referees. “shoutout to Ann because she know it was the heat of the moment and she didn’t let me apologize because she knew! Not happening again tho.”
Reese, 23, was just selected to her second career WNBA All-Star team and holds season averages of 13.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. But the Sky continue to struggle in the standings and are now 5-13 overall, which is the second-worst record in the league.
Additionally, Reese has been extremely unhappy with the way that her team is being officiated and recently aired out a complaint about the refs over social media after another loss by the Sky. From the looks of it though, Reese’s days of assaulting local clipboards now appear to be over.
Ben Askren says he ‘died four times’ during health scare
Ben Askren on Wednesday appeared on camera to share a message with his fans for the first time since his significant health scare.
Askren, 40, has been hospitalized for over a month after falling ill with “severe pneumonia” that resulted from a staph infection. He became so ill that he needed a double lung transplant in order to improve his health condition.
On Wednesday, Askren posted a video to his Instagram in which he spoke about his health situation. The former Bellator and ONE Welterweight Champion said he “died four times” during the entire ordeal. He also says he does not remember anything from May 28-July 2.
“What’s up guys? Had not given you an update for a while. Figure you deserve one,” Askren said in the video. “Whenever this is all the way over, I just read through my wife’s journal because I don’t remember anything from May 28 to July 2. No recollection. Zero idea. No idea what happened.
“I just read through my wife’s journal, it’s like a movie. It’s ridiculous. So I only died four times where the ticker stopped for about 20 seconds. I got the double lung transplant. I made it out to the other side of it. Gaining strength. I was actually on the scale yesterday. 147 pounds. I haven’t been 147 pounds since 15 years old. That was a battle, and I don’t remember most of it.”
Askren then said the one positive from the health scare was being able to feel the love from his friends, fans and family. He compared the experience to living one’s funeral.
“The thing that was most impactful to me was the love that I felt from everybody. It was almost like I got to have my own funeral. … so the outpouring of love was amazing, felt so good. I’m more motivated than ever to give back and do what I can and help out the best I can help out. I love you guys, I appreciate you guys. This has been tough on not only me, but my whole family,” Askren said.
Askren is an accomplished wrestler and MMA fighter. He was a two-time Division I wrestling champion for Missouri and then became an Olympic wrestler. He went into MMA after his wrestling career and was 19-2 with one no contest. He went from February 2009-March 2019 without losing an MMA fight.

Brian Cashman reveals what Yankees are seeking at trade deadline
The New York Yankees entered play on Wednesday 50-41 and second place in the AL East amid a recent stretch of losing. The team is looking to make some additions ahead of the July 31 trade deadline, and general manager Brian Cashman shared on Wednesday what areas he’s looking to upgrade.
Cashman said that he would like to add some starting pitching.
“I’m definitely going to be looking for upgrades if I can. That doesn’t guarantee anything. We’ve lost three starters out of our World Series rotation so far this year, so I’ve got to look and see if I can find a starter,” Cashman said, via Bryan Hoch.
“I’d certainly love to import a starter, some relievers because our bullpen has been taxed with injuries, and an infielder if possible. That’s a long list. I don’t know if this will be a deep deadline or not. I don’t know how active we will be. But I can tell you that we will try to import improvements. That’s the gig.”
Pitchers Gerrit Cole, Clarke Schmidt and Jake Cousins are all out for the season. Marcus Stroman is just coming back from a knee injury, and Luis Gil is working his way back from a strained lat injury.
As far as infielders go, the Yankees are moving Jazz Chisholm Jr. to second base and decided to designate DJ LeMahieu for assignment. Third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera is on the 60-day injured list, while Oswald Peraza is batting just .157 this season. Cashman did not specify which infield position they would like to add, but there is little doubt that the Yankees would like to bring in a third baseman.
Last year’s team made it to the World Series before losing to the Dodgers. Cashman is hoping to at least get back to the Fall Classic in 2025.
Yankees part ways with 3-time All-Star
DJ LeMahieu’s run with the New York Yankees has come to an end.
The Yankees on Wednesday designated LeMahieu for assignment. The 36-year-old had been with the Yankees since signing a 2-year, $24 million contract with them in free agency prior to the 2019 season. The two sides later extended his contract with a 6-year, $90 million deal that runs through 2026. The Yankees have decided to part ways with LeMahieu despite still owing him $22 million from that contract.
LeMahieu began his career great for the Bronx Bombers. He batted .327 with 33 doubles, 26 home runs and an .893 OPS in 2019. He also set career-high marks with 109 runs scored and 102 RBIs that season. The following season he batted a blistering .364 over 50 games in the shortened year.
This season, the second baseman was batting .266 with a .674 OPS in 45 games. Teammate Jazz Chisholm Jr. had indicated to the Yankees that he preferred to play second base rather than third base. That created an issue for LeMahieu, who was apparently unable to play third base. The end result is the Yankees decided to DFA the former Colorado Rockie.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said LeMahieu did not take the news well.
“It’s been a tough couple days,” Boone said Wednesday. “Difficult, but at the end, feel like this is the right thing to do at the time. Wish all the best for what’s been a great player.”

LeMahieu is remembered fondly by Yankees fans for his strong run during the 2019 postseason in which he batted .325 with a 1.011 OPS in 9 games. He had a big tying home run in Game 6 of the ALCS against the Astros that year.

Novak Djokovic sets record with latest Wimbledon semifinal berth
Novak Djokovic continues to make tennis history even at the age of 38.
Djokovic on Wednesday dropped the first set of his quarterfinal match at Wimbledon against Italian Flavio Cobolli to win the match in four sets, 6-7 (6), 6-2, 7-5, 6-4. The victory put Djokovic into the semifinals at Wimbledon for the 14th time in his career, which is more semifinals than any other player in the open era. Djokovic had been tied with Roger Federer at 13 apiece before breaking the tie. This will also be Djokovic’s 52nd major semifinal, which ties Chris Evert for the most career major semifinals in the open era among either men or women.
Djokovic blew a lead in the first set and lost it in a tiebreak before rallying to win the match. He played mostly error-free tennis and only committed 22 unforced errors.
Djokovic will face top seed Jannik Sinner in the semifinals on Friday. Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz will meet in the other semifinal that day, and the winners of the respective matches will face each other in the finals on Sunday.
Djokovic has won Wimbledon seven times during his career. He is looking to win his eighth, which would tie Roger Federer for the most by a male player. He’s already made history by reaching the semifinals of the event. Can he take it two steps further and win it all?
Deion Sanders suggests radical change to college football
Colorado coach Deion Sanders thinks one radical change could help address the NIL issues that continue to go unaddressed around college football.
Speaking at Big 12 Media Days on Wednesday, Sanders was asked how he believes NIL should be handled by the NCAA. The coach essentially called for some sort of salary cap to create some parity across the sport.
“I wish there was a cap. The top of the line player makes this, and if you’re not that type of guy, you know you’re not going to make that. That’s what the NFL does,” Sanders said. “The problem is, you’ve got a guy that’s not that darn good, but he can go to another school, and they give him a half a million dollars. You can’t compete with that.
“All you have to do is look at the playoffs and see what those teams spent. You understand darn well why they’re in the playoffs. It’s kind of hard to compete with someone who’s getting $25-$30 million to a darn freshman class. It’s crazy. We’re not complaining, because all these coaches up here and coach their butts off … but what’s going on right now don’t make sense. We want to say stuff, but we’re trying to be professional.”
"All you gotta do is look at the [CFP] and see what those teams spent, and you'll understand darn well why they're in the playoffs."
— ESPN (@espn) July 9, 2025
Deion Sanders on NIL and the current state of college football. pic.twitter.com/y6A5C3dWUP
Sanders’ point is that teams with the most NIL funds available to them are inevitably going to land the best players and make the playoffs repeatedly. NIL creates plenty of other problems and nudges players to transfer sometimes, but the wealth is not exactly being spread around.
We have seen that a big NIL budget is no guarantee of success. There is no doubt, however, that it helps. The irony is that Sanders used the transfer portal to establish his program nationally, but there is only so much he can do now that other programs are catching up.
UFC legend Randy Couture hospitalized after crashing race car
UFC legend Randy Couture has been hospitalized with serious injuries after crashing while practicing for his National Hot Rod Association racing debut this year.
Couture was airlifted to a burn center after crashing during practice runs at a racetrack in Kansas City, Mo., according to TMZ Sports. The UFC icon is reportedly suffering from first- and second-degree burns, trauma injuries, and smoke inhalation.
The exact cause of the crash is unclear, but TMZ reports that Couture is expected to recover.
Couture was one of UFC’s first major stars. The 62-year-old made his UFC debut in 1997 and retired in 2011 after winning six titles. The UFC Hall-of-Famer has done commentary since retiring and also appeared in several films and television shows. He suffered a heart attack in 2019, but made a full recovery.
Couture had launched his NHRA career earlier this year. He has been training and practicing, and had hoped to make his racing debut later in 2025.
Trinity Rodman gets an apology from the BBC
Trinity Rodman received an apology from the BBC over how she was covered during Ben Shelton’s match at Wimbledon on Monday.
Rodman had complained on social media after BBC commentator Andrew Castle repeatedly misidentified her as “Tiffany” during Shelton’s win over Lorenzo Sonego on Monday. Rodman was also unhappy that her father, Dennis Rodman, was brought up.

— Key 👻🖤🏆 (@Frejoregui) July 7, 2025
Rodman’s complaint about her name, at the very least, did land. According to Emine Sinmaz of The Guardian, Castle issued an apology on Wednesday for “mispronouncing” Rodman’s first name.
Shelton and Rodman went public with their relationship earlier this year. The soccer star received a shoutout from Shelton after one of his matches at Wimbledon this year, and has been on hand to support him for the entire tournament.
Shelton was eliminated from Wimbledon on Wednesday, losing in straight sets to top overall seek Jannik Sinner.
Mike Gundy had perfect reaction to his look in new College Football video game
Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy became a viral sensation this week for his appearance in the new EA Sports “College Football 26” video game. It did not take him long for him to become aware of that.
Some top coaches will have their likenesses appear in the upcoming game this year, and Gundy is one of them. On Monday, a screenshot of Gundy quickly went viral, as the Oklahoma State coach looked like he was rocking an afro in the game.

Gundy addressed the look on Wednesday at Big 12 media day, and he seemed pretty pleased with the result.
“It’s pretty cool, someone put me in the video game. Someone showed me my hair. They gave me pretty good hair. That’s permanent hair,” Gundy said, via Brett McMurphy of On3.
Gundy added that his virtual likeness is more “muscled up” than the real thing, and that he expects his high school buddies to get a kick out of how he was depicted.

Gundy is known for his famous mullet, which EA seemingly tried to replicate here. They did not quite nail it, but what we got instead is very memorable.
At this rate, Gundy is probably pleased to be in the game at all. His status at Oklahoma State was in some doubt this offseason, but he will return for a 21st season in 2025, both in real life and virtually.
Knicks’ plan to hire new top assistant has fallen through
After coming up short on their preferred targets at the start of their coaching search, the New York Knicks appear to have swung and missed at their top assistant coach target as well.
Ian Begley of SNY reported Wednesday that James Borrego, the main target to become Mike Brown’s top assistant in New York, will remain with the New Orleans Pelicans. The Pelicans sought to retain Borrego and have successfully done so.
Pelicans associate head coach James Borrego, a Knicks target for a lead spot on Mike Brown’s staff, will be staying in New Orleans, per league sources familiar with the matter. Knicks interviewed Borrego for their head coaching position and had interest in adding him to Brown’s…
— Ian Begley (@IanBegley) July 9, 2025
The Knicks had strongly prioritized Borrego for the role of lead assistant, but faced roadblocks as the new job was not technically a promotion. As such, the Pelicans had the right to step in and prevent Borrego from leaving, and they have done so.
It is unclear what the Knicks’ backup plan is. While they are keeping ex-coach Tom Thibodeau’s top assistant in the fold, they are also demoting him, so the job is very much open.
Borrego, 47, has been an assistant coach with the Pelicans since 2023. He previously served as the head coach of the Charlotte Hornets for four seasons. The Hornets went 138-163 under him and never made the postseason, though they did have a winning season in his final year 2021-2022. Borrego is highly regarded for his offensive coaching systems.
Washington Commanders unveil new throwback uniforms
The Washington Commanders have had a complicated relationship with their history for the past several years, but are leaning into it with their new alternate uniforms.
The Commanders unveiled their throwbacks on Wednesday, billing them as a nod to their “Super Bowl era” of the 1980s and early 1990s. The new uniforms are essentially identical to the ones they wore before their 2020 rebranding, though with their new logo replacing the former Washington Redskins one.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) July 9, 2025
The Commanders plan to wear the uniforms for three games next season, including their Week 17 showdown with the Dallas Cowboys.
Washington’s greatest successes came using the team’s old nickname, which was changed in 2020. For a while, the Commanders distanced themselves from the franchise’s most successful era as a result.
Many fans have not warmed up to the new nickname, but ownership has said there are no plans to reverse the change. The alternate uniforms may be a nod to those fans as the team tries to link the franchise’s past with its bright future.
The Commanders are coming off an unexpected 12-5 season that saw the team reach the NFC Championship game. Enthusiasm is high for the team, making the new uniforms well-timed.
Christian Horner fired by Red Bull Racing
Red Bull Racing has fired Christian Horner after 20 years with the team. Under Horner, Red Bull Racing had immense success racking up 8 drivers championships, 6 constructors titles, 124 grand prix wins, 107 pole positions, and 287 podium finishes.
Laurent Mekies will now take over as CEO of Red Bull Racing, while Alan Permane will take over as team principal.
Since the 2022 death of Dietrich Mateschitz, the ownership and leadership support of Horner has been in flux. Though he made it past an investigation into inappropriate behavior with a female staffer, the inconsistency in results since the middle of last season seems to have been the final straw that led to Horner’s firing.
Currently, Max Verstappen is in 3rd place in the drivers’ championship, trailing Oscar Piastri by 69 points. The team is 4th in the constructors’ standings, trailing McLaren by 288 points.
With several key staff changes over the last few years, punctuated by the loss of Adrian Newey, Red Bull Racing will face a lot of questions. Matters get more complicated next year with the introduction of new car regulations, as well as Red Bull leaving longtime engine partner Honda, and creating its own in-house power unit.
To complicate matters further, Horner’s firing will only add fuel to the rumors that continue to swirl regarding Verstappen’s potential exit from Red Bull Racing.
Patrick Mahomes’ trainer beefs with Kansas City radio host
Patrick Mahomes’ trainer is once again going after one of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback’s critics.
Mahomes was photographed celebrating the Fourth of July holiday on a boat. Some, including KCMO radio host Kevin Keitzman, felt the quarterback was looking a bit chubby.

According to TMZ, Keitzman referred to Mahomes as “fat” and an “embarrassment” on his podcast Monday. That did not sit well with the quarterback’s longtime trainer, Bobby Stroupe.
In a set of now-deleted X posts, Stroupe challenged Keitzman to take part in Mahomes’ workout routine, and said Keitzman has no clue about the quarterback’s training regimen.
“You don’t have a clue what it takes. It’s not a look, it’s performance,” Stroupe wrote.

— Starcade Media (@StarcadeMediaKC) July 7, 2025
Mahomes’ trainer is not shy about calling out the quarterback’s critics. The Chiefs star certainly has a body of work that speaks for itself, but Stroupe is not going to let the remarks pass unchallenged. That said, if Keitzman is just looking for attention, Stroupe fell right into the trap of giving it to him by responding.
Mahomes will definitely look somewhat different this year, but nobody seems legitimately concerned about his weight.
Thunder poised to sign 2 stars to lucrative contract extensions
The Oklahoma City Thunder are locking down their core players on the heels of their NBA title.
The Thunder are in agreement on a five-year rookie max contract with center Chet Holmgren, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. That deal could be worth as much as $250 million.
The Thunder are not done there. Charania added that the team has momentum in rookie extension talks with Jalen Williams, and are hoping to get something done with him soon.
After missing three months during the season, Holmgren returned in February and came back stronger to help lead OKC and its young core to the NBA title. The Thunder will now move toward locking in All-NBA superstar Jalen Williams, who has momentum in his rookie extension talks. https://t.co/oua4FZcuem
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) July 9, 2025
It has been a busy offseason for the Thunder, who are determined to keep their big three together for years to come. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander already got a monster new contract from the team earlier this summer.
Both Holmgren and Williams have proven their worth to Oklahoma City. Holmgren has become a star in his own right, while Williams had a breakout moment in the NBA Finals. There is a history of injury with Holmgren, but the Thunder clearly do not believe that will linger.
The strong core the Thunder have built could certainly grow into a dynasty. They will be an expensive group, but they should pile up a lot of wins in the years to come.
Patrick Bailey hits MLB’s first walkoff inside-the-park HR in 99 years
Patrick Bailey pulled off a feat on Tuesday night that you might not see again for another century.
The San Francisco Giants catcher Bailey completed an improbable come-from-behind victory for the team against the Philadelphia Phillies at Oracle Park in San Francisco, Calif. The Giants were down 3-1 entering the bottom of the ninth inning with Phillies closer Jordan Romano on the mound.
San Francisco’s Casey Schmitt started off the party with a leadoff double, and Wilmer Flores followed two batters later with a single that put runners on the corners with one out. Bailey stepped up to the plate and immediately ambushed the first pitch from Romano.
The ball traveled to deep right-center and banged off the wall, missing the stands by just a few inches. But Bailey was in luck because the ball took a fortuitous hop and caromed away from both Phillies outfielders. That easily brought both baserunners home, and Bailey himself followed suit, waltzing into the plate standing up for an unbelievable walkoff inside-the-park home run.
Here is the thrilling video.

According to Baseball Reference, that was MLB’s first walkoff inside-the-parker since Aug. 11, 1926. On that date, Bennie Tate (who was also a catcher) achieved the feat for the then-Washington Senators, giving them the victory over the New York Yankees. Jeff Passan of ESPN pointed out the incredible fact.

Like many catchers, the 26-year-old Bailey is not exactly known for his speed and has only swiped five total bases in his MLB career (with none this season). He is not much of a power hitter either and entered play on Tuesday batting .188 this year with a .531 OPS.
But none of that mattered to the baseball gods during San Francisco’s amazing comeback win over the Phillies. That was also quite the full circle moment considering that the Phillies victimized the Giants with an inside-the-park home run of their own a couple of years ago.
