Marcus Morris arrested for allegedly writing a bad check

July 27, 2025 by Steve DelVecchio
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Longtime NBA player Marcus Morris was arrested in Florida on Sunday over a felony out-of-state warrant.

According to arrest records from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Morris was taken into custody on Sunday for a felony warrant that was issued in another state. He was being held without bond on a charge related to writing a check with insufficient funds, also known as a bad check.

Morris, 35, last played for the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2023-24 season. He signed a deal with the New York Knicks prior to last season but was waived two weeks later.

Morris, who starred in college at Kansas with his twin brother Markieff, has played for several different teams since he was drafted by the Houston Rockets with the 14th overall pick in 2011. At his peak, he averaged 19.6 points per game in 43 contests with the New York Knicks during the 2019-20 season. He has averaged 12 points and 4.4 rebounds per game for his career.

Earlier this year, Morris began making appearances on ESPN’s “First Take.” His television career got off to a bang when he used a controversial term to describe Memphis Grizzlies players while live on the air.

Morris has also involved in some conflicts during his playing career.

No further details about the felony warrant were immediately listed by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

Ichiro delivers his Hall of Fame speech

Ichiro had the most backhanded compliment for Marlins during Hall of Fame speech

July 27, 2025 by Steve DelVecchio
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Ichiro Suzuki delivered an amazing speech as he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday, and it even included a surprising swipe at one of his own former teams.

During the iconic speech, Ichiro took the time to thank each of of the three MLB teams that he played for across his 19 MLB seasons. When he arrived at the Miami Marlins, he made a hilarious wisecrack about how he had never heard of the team before they offered him a contract in 2015.

“And to the Miami Marlins: I appreciate David Samson and Mike Hill for coming today. Honestly, when you guys called to offer me a contract for 2015, I had never heard of your team,” Ichiro joked.

"And to the Miami Marlins–

Honestly, when you guys called to offer me a contract for 2015…

I had never heard of your Team." 🤣🤣🤣 pic.twitter.com/3TszuOJIVR

— Rob Friedman (@PitchingNinja) July 27, 2025

Many were surprised to hear Ichiro deliver his speech in English, as he almost always used an interpreter in interviews during and after his playing career. The fact that the 51-year-old was able to entertain the crowd while not speaking in his native language made the speech even more iconic.

While thanking the New York Yankees, Ichiro had a funny comment about how his former teammates were only there to support CC Sabathia, who was also being inducted into Cooperstown.

Ichiro thanked the Yankees in his Hall of Fame speech:

"I know you guys are really here today for CC, but that's okay. He deserves your love." 😂

Ichiro is one of the greatest hitters in MLB history, and fans have enjoyed seeing the less serious side of him in recent months. Earlier this year, he also took a hilarious shot at the lone Hall of Fame voter who snubbed him. Ichiro called out the voter again during his speech on Sunday.

Ichiro takes shot at voter who snubbed him on Hall of Fame ballot

July 27, 2025 by Grey Papke
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Ichiro Suzuki made sure to call out the lone Hall of Fame voter who left him off their ballot at Sunday’s induction ceremony.

Ichiro infamously fell one vote short of a unanimous induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame, and the unidentified voter who snubbed him was a major talking point when results were announced. Ichiro himself took the snub in stride, and he publicly invited the voter over to his house for a “chat.”

During his hilarious Hall of Fame speech on Sunday, Ichiro brought up the vote, and publicly revoked that invitation.

“3,000 hits or 262 hits in one season are achievements recognized by the writers — well, all but one of you,” Ichiro said. “And by the way, the offer for that writer to have dinner at my home has now expired.”

The crowd on hand for the induction ceremony absolutely loved the jab, and it drew a rousing ovation.

Ichiro delivered his entire speech in English and had several other great one-liners. His remarks were well-received by the Cooperstown crowd.

Ichiro was an obvious Hall of Fame pick. He tallied 3,089 career hits and a lifetime .311 average, and that does not even account for his numbers in Japan. The one voter who left him off their ballot deserved to be roasted.

Pacers Finals piece set to leave NBA for Europe

July 27, 2025 by Darryn Albert
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

One veteran player is about to go from the NBA Finals to playing overseas.

Indiana Pacers center Thomas Bryant is in advanced negotiations with Greek professional basketball team Panathinaikos, European outlet Telesport reported on Sunday. Telesport adds that Bryant is expected to sign a contract with Panathinaikos worth $3 million per year.

Bryant, 27, is an eight-year NBA veteran who has been on five different teams in his career. He won a title with the Denver Nuggets in 2023 and then made it back to the Finals this past season as a member of the Pacers.

Overall in the 2024-25 season, Bryant averaged 6.9 points and 3.9 rebounds in just 15.1 minutes per game for Indiana on exemplary big man shooting splits of 51/32/86. He also received some occasional rotation minutes during the Pacers’ 2025 Finals run as a backup to Myles Turner, appearing in 20 of the team’s 23 playoff games.

With Turner leaving Indiana this summer to sign with a major rival, Bryant might have had an opportunity for a bigger role in 2025-26. But it appears the Pacers have not been all that interested in bringing him back, so Bryant may now be headed to Europe instead.

Panathinaikos is the most successful club in the history of Greek basketball, and they are coming off a Greek Cup victory last season as well as a trip to the Final Four of the EuroLeague. Additionally, Panathinaikos is no stranger to poaching talent from the NBA and could now be doing so again by signing the 6-foot-10 center Bryant.

Browns QB contender to miss time with hamstring injury

July 27, 2025 by Grey Papke
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

One of the leading candidates to win the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback job suffered a potentially significant injury setback over the weekend.

Browns quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered a hamstring injury during practice Saturday and will be sidelined. Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com reported that Pickett is “likely to miss some time.”

Pickett has been widely viewed as one of the two most likely Week 1 starters for the Browns. There was even some evidence he might have been pulling ahead of Joe Flacco to claim the starting job. It is not clear how long Pickett’s absence will be, and how much it will negatively impact his chances of winning the job.

The Browns traded for Pickett in March, and he was expected to be Flacco’s main challenger for the starting job. The team then drafted rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, but that does not appear to have changed the race significantly, as neither of them have received much of a look so far.

Pickett started 24 games over two seasons for the Steelers to start his career, throwing for 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He served as a backup to Jalen Hurts on the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl team last season.

Joy Taylor hints at possible retirement after her FS1 exit

July 27, 2025 by Darryn Albert
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Joy Taylor may not exactly be eager to resume her career in sports media after getting ousted by FS1.

The veteran sports host Taylor appeared this week on The Ringer’s “High Learning” podcast. During the appearance, Taylor hinted as possibly retiring from the media after her recent FS1 exit.

“Overall, the saying ‘It doesn’t feel like work is when you’re doing something that you actually enjoy.’ I think what happened to me this year took that away from me,” Taylor said of FS1, per Awful Announcing. “I don’t know if I’ll get that back. I might, maybe like when the callous forms over the wound and you get away from things … But right now, it doesn’t feel that way. It doesn’t feel exciting.

“Like the big dreams seem like, ‘I’m going to do it but I’m not as excited about it,’” Taylor continued. “And that’s kind of s–tty because this has been a lot of work and a lot of passion. But it’s been something that I think has come naturally to me because I enjoy it… But the building the work of it all, it doesn’t feel the same. Like the dream now is to just disappear.”

The 38-year-old Taylor began in the sports media industry in 2009, serving on local Miami radio stations before eventually doing work for CBS Sports. She then joined FS1 in 2016 and was there up until earlier this month.

Taylor was let go by FS1 in mid-July as part of major network changes (with her television show “Speak” also getting cancelled). The move had been a long time in the making after Taylor was named in a lawsuit earlier this year by a former FS1 employee. The lawsuit claimed that Taylor had sexual relationships with both her boss and colleague at FS1 and used those relationships to advance her career (full details here). In the wake of the lawsuit, she was sidelined by FS1 for two weeks from late February to early March before eventually returning to the air.

Then after the news broke a couple of weeks ago that Taylor had finally been let go by FS1, it appeared that she would have another job opportunity in sports media waiting for her. But now it sounds like Taylor intends to take her time and fully evaluate whether or not she would like to continue in the industry.

Kyrie Irving shares ridiculous practice story about Luka Doncic

July 27, 2025 by Grey Papke
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic spent about a year together as Dallas Mavericks teammates, and that was more than enough time for Irving to collect some incredible practice stories about his former teammate.

During a recent Twitch stream, Irving opened up about some of the things he saw Doncic do during Mavericks practices. He revealed that Doncic would put up absurd stat lines against his teammates, and once scored 24 points against someone in a three-minute span.

“He’s giving you probably 60, 18, and 18,” Irving said. “I witnessed him give somebody 24 points in three minutes.”

Based on Irving’s description, the big numbers feel like a fairly common occurrence. That might not quite be Caitlin Clark-levels of dominance, but it is pretty impressive all the same.

There are some indications that Doncic is also starting to get his fitness in order. That might spell very bad news for opposing teams, and even opposing players in Los Angeles Lakers practices.

Nikola Jokic’s agent causes stir with post about LeBron James

July 27, 2025 by Darryn Albert
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Nikola Jokic’s agent certainly knows how to stir the pot.

Misko Raznatovic, the Serbian sports agent who represents the Denver Nuggets star Jokic, sparked a frenzy over social media this week with a post about Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James. Raznatovic posted a picture to Instagram of himself on a boat along with both James and James’ longtime business partner Maverick Carter.

Tagging both James and Carter in the post, Raznatovic had the location as Saint Tropez, France. He also included the caption, “The summer of 2025 is the perfect time to make big plans for the fall of 2026!”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Miško Ražnatović (@misko4raznatovic)

The post comes amid a wave of uncertainty about James’ future with the Lakers. While James recently picked up his $52.6 million player option with the team for next season, reports are that he has gotten his feelings hurt by the Lakers (in part because they failed to offer him a contract beyond the 2025-26 campaign). As it stands right now, it appears that the Lakers are fully committed to the Luka Doncic era and intend to treat 2025-26 as James’ final year in Los Angeles, whether he ends up retiring or not.

As for Jokic, he is still under contract with the Nuggets through at least 2027 (with a player option for 2027-28 as well). There are also no indications that Jokic is unhappy in Denver, particularly with the Nuggets making some big win-now moves this summer.

Despite their playoff battles in years past, James and Jokic share a strong relationship of mutual respect. Now it appears that Jokic’s agent is toying with the possibility of recruiting James to Denver for the 2026-27 season (assuming that James would still like to continue his NBA career by that point).

Stephen Jones has blunt message for Micah Parsons

July 27, 2025 by Steve DelVecchio
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

The Dallas Cowboys have taken a hard stance in their contract negotiations with Micah Parsons, and the latest comments from Stephen Jones seem like further confirmation of that.

Jerry Jones addressed Cowboys fans at the start of the team’s training camp practice on Saturday in Oxnard, Calif. As the 82-year-old began his speech, he was greeted with a number of “pay Micah!” chants from those in attendance.

On Sunday, Stephen Jones was asked about Cowboys fans getting restless over the team’s ongoing contract stalemate with Parsons. The executive vice president suggested Parsons is the one being unreasonable.

“It doesn’t change anything. We want to pay Micah too. He’s gotta want to be paid,” Jones told reporters.

— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) July 27, 2025

Parsons’ contract demands are probably fairly straightforward. T.J. Watt recently signed an extension with the Pittsburgh Steelers that will pay him $41 million per year, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. Watt’s deal tops the extension Myles Garrett signed with the Cleveland Browns earlier this offseason that averages $40 million per year.

Parsons has been one of the best pass rushers in the NFL since Dallas drafted him in 2021. The 25-year-old has 52.5 sacks through his first 63 NFL games, including 12 in 13 games in 2024. He is almost certainly looking for a contract that will pay him slightly more than Watt’s deal, which is a reasonable expectation.

The holdup likely has to do with guaranteed money, and that is common with a high-profile contract negotiation.

There has clearly been some tension between Parsons and the Jones family. Jerry brought some of that on himself with the bizarre swipe he recently took at Parsons, and Stephen’s comments on Sunday probably will not help the situation much.

LaMelo Ball gets roasted over hideous new foot tattoo

July 27, 2025 by Darryn Albert

LaMelo Ball seems to have outdone himself once again.

The Charlotte Hornets star Ball went viral this week over his ludicrous new tattoo. Ball’s tattoo artist, who goes by @iamelvistattoo on Instagram, showed off the new ink that he apparently just gave to the 23-year-old NBA All-Star.

Ball appears to have gotten a flames tattoo that covers all five of the toes on his right foot. The tattoo was dubbed “the hot chee toes” by the artist.

Here is a screenshot of the artist’s Instagram Story post.

Ball is about to enter his sixth NBA season and is coming off averaging 25.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game last year (albeit in just 47 games due to injury). He is still owed roughly $169 million by the Hornets over the next four seasons.

The NBA’s Rookie of the Year in 2021, Ball has always gone above and beyond when it comes to tattoos. Last year, Ball already went viral over a crazy tattoo covering his entire back.

Jarren Duran makes embarrassing baserunning mistake

July 27, 2025 by Steve DelVecchio
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

The Los Angeles Dodgers committed a brutal error early in their game against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, but the dropped ball was not even the most embarrassing part of the play.

Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran was on first with two outs in the bottom of the first inning at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass. Roman Anthony was hit by a pitch to lead off the game. Alex Bregman then flied out to right field, followed by Anthony advancing to third base on a single from Duran.

The next batter was Trevor Story, who hit a sacrifice fly to center that brought Anthony in to score. Masataka Yoshida then lifted a routine fly ball to shallow left field that looked like it was going to end the inning, but Dodgers outfielder Michael Conforto somehow dropped it.

Duran should have been running on contact and easily gotten to third. He hesitated while the ball was in the air, however, which suggests he did not realize there were two outs.

Oh no Conforto 😬 pic.twitter.com/0UeYU2wlDi

— Talkin’ Baseball (@TalkinBaseball_) July 27, 2025

Red Sox catcher Carlos Narvaez grounded into a fielder’s choice to end the inning, so Duran’s mistake probably did not cost the team anything. Still, it was the type of mental lapse that is not typically seen in an MLB game.

Duran, who entered Sunday batting .259 with 9 home runs and 55 RBI, has been mentioned as a potential trade candidate ahead of the July 31 deadline. Perhaps that has taken away from some of his focus.

While it was not the most embarrassing baserunning blunder we have seen this season, that was not a good look for Duran.

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson has signed a lucrative contract extension, and his soon-to-be wife is understandably excited about it.

The Cowboys announced on Sunday that they have signed Ferguson to a four-year, $52 million extension. The deal includes $30 million guaranteed and makes Ferguson one of the 10 highest-paid tight ends in the NFL.

Haley Cavinder, who is Ferguson’s longtime girlfriend, shared her reaction to the news via social media.

“So proud of you! No one more deserving … go ferg (sic) and go cowboys (sic),” Cavinder wrote on her Instagram story.

Between Ferguson’s new contract and the recent exciting change Cavinder made, it has been a good month for the happy couple.

Jaguars offer hint about how they will utilize Travis Hunter

July 27, 2025 by Steve DelVecchio
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

The Jacksonville Jaguars have said they believe Travis Hunter can play on both sides of the ball at the NFL level, and it appears they are preparing for the rookie to do just that in his first season.

Hunter got plenty of reps at both wide receiver and cornerback during Jacksonville’s first week of training camp. The former Colorado star has played slightly more on the defensive side of the ball, but the numbers are fairly split.

According to ESPN’s Michael DiRocco, Hunter had taken 47 snaps on defense and 36 snaps on offense through Sunday.

Total Travis Hunter snaps through four Jaguars camp practices: 83 snaps (36 on offense, 47 on defense)

7-on-7: 18 snaps (11 offense, 7 defense)

11-on-11: 65 snaps (25 offense, 40 defense)

— Michael DiRocco (@ESPNdirocco) July 27, 2025

There were reports leading up to the NFL Draft that most teams viewed Hunter primarily as a defensive back. Thus far, Jacksonville has leaned that way as well. But if the Jaguars were not planning to have Hunter play a significant role for them at wide receiver, he probably would not be getting that many offensive snaps at camp.

Hunter had 96 catches for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns during his Heisman Trophy-winning season at Colorado last year. He had 35 total tackles, 4 interceptions and a forced fumble defensively.

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce recently shared how he thinks teams will try to make Hunter’s life miserable if the rookie plays both ways. It does not seem like that is going to deter Hunter or the Jaguars, at least to start the 2025 season.

Terry McLaurin had 6-word message for fans amid contract dispute

July 27, 2025 by Steve DelVecchio
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Terry McLaurin reported to training camp on Sunday despite his ongoing contract dispute with the Washington Commanders, and the star wide receiver delivered a great message to his fans.

McLaurin is in the final year of a three-year, $68 million contract he signed in 2022. He is seeking an extension that would make him one of the highest-paid receivers in football.

After choosing not to show up for the start of training camp, McLaurin ended his holdout on Sunday. He still is not practicing, however, as he was placed on the physically unable to perform list.

Being that it was his first day back, McLaurin decided to spend time signing autographs for fans. He also told them “my beef is not with y’all.”

McLaurin signed for fans for about 30 minutes after practice.

“It feels good to be around my teammates and around my fans. I can’t beat that at all,” McLaurin said. “They show me a lot of love and support and I just try to give that back, not just on the field but off the field.”

— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) July 27, 2025

By reporting to camp, McLaurin will no longer be subject to fines of $50,000 per day. His decision to end his holdout does not necessarily mean he and the Commanders have made progress toward a long-term extension.

McLaurin has had five consecutive seasons with 1,000-plus receiving yards. He led Washington with 82 catches for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns last season.

While McLaurin is happy to be back around his teammates and fans, he recently had some very candid negative remarks about the Commanders organization.

Aaron Rodgers gushes about his mystery wife in new interview

July 27, 2025 by Steve DelVecchio
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Aaron Rodgers has managed to keep the identity of his new wife a secret, but the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback is certainly not hiding his feelings about her.

Rodgers spoke about his wife during an interview with NFL Network at Steelers training camp this week. The 41-year-old had no problem being candid about how thankful he is to have met the mystery woman.

“When you meet the right one and you’re with the right one, your whole world changes in a second. To have that person that unconditionally loves you behind the scenes, there’s no better feeling in the world,” Rodgers said. “And I’ve got the most incredible wife. I just really love her. I’m so thankful to have her by my side at the end. When you have that stability and that rock behind you at the house, you feel like you can do anything.”

A post shared by Sports Illustrated (@sportsillustrated)

Rodgers first revealed in an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” last December that he had a girlfriend named Brittani. We are unsure of the exact spelling of the woman’s name, but Rodgers specified that she was “Brittani with an ‘I’” when he brought it up.

Then in April, Rodgers told “The Pat McAfee Show” that he was in a “serious relationship” and had some off-field things consuming him. He had left open the possibility of retiring at the time.

Shortly after that, Rodgers was spotted wearing what appeared to be a wedding band on his left ring finger. The former MVP confirmed after signing with the Steelers that he has been married since earlier this year.

Rodgers seems determined to have his wife’s identity remain a mystery, but he still wants everyone to know how important she is to his life.

Yankees trade for bat in wake of Aaron Judge injury

July 26, 2025 by Darryn Albert
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

The New York Yankees are moving quickly to address life (for now) without Aaron Judge.

The Yankees announced on Saturday that they have made a trade for infielder Amed Rosario. They are acquiring Rosario from the Washington Nationals in exchange for RHP Clayton Beeter and outfielder Browm Martinez.

Rosario, 29, is a nine-year MLB veteran who was batting .270 with five home runs and 18 RBIs over 46 total appearances for the Nationals this season. During Rosario’s last full season in 2024, he hit .280 with three home runs, 32 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases over 103 total games.

The Yankees need help offensively in the wake of the elbow injury to their superstar outfielder Judge. The reigning AL MVP Judge has been placed on the 10-day injured list but reportedly does not have any damage to the UCL in his elbow (meaning that Judge is likely looking at a shorter-term absence).

For the time being, the Yankees lineup (sans Judge) is extremely heavy on lefty hitters. That is where Rosario, a righty hitter, should be able to help out. Rosario also has experience playing at shortstop, second base, and outfield, so he will give the Yankees some much-needed lineup versatility in Judge’s absence.

A former AL triples leader as well, Rosario’s contract will expire after the season. If Rosario can perform well right now for the Yankees (who also made another big trade earlier this week), he might be able to earn some run in the postseason as well as possibly even a new contract from them.

Aaron Rodgers issues response to Terry Bradshaw

July 26, 2025 by Darryn Albert
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Aaron Rodgers is addressing the elephant in the room now that he is kicking off training camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The four-time NFL MVP Rodgers was interviewed by NFL Network at team training camp on Saturday. During the interview, Rodgers got asked about retired Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw’s harsh criticisms of him.

Before Rodgers formally signed with Pittsburgh last month, Bradshaw made some savage comments about the possibility of the move. Bradshaw said that Rodgers should “stay in California” and “go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods out there” (read Bradshaw’s full comments here).

Rodgers responded on Saturday and did his best to take the high road and show deference to Bradshaw.

“Well, I whisper to the gods every single day,” Rodgers said. “I’ve known Terry for a long time, being a part of FOX. Terry’s a legend. He’s an absolute legend, won four Super Bowls. He’s had a legendary career in the media. But Terry, like a lot of people, doesn’t know me. He’s got an idea of what he thinks about me … I feel like if he gave me a chance to get to know him, then we’d have a good friendship.”

“I’d love to get to know Terry on a deeper level,” added Rodgers. “I feel like if he gave me a chance to get to know him, we’d have a great friendship. For me, I have nothing but the utmost amount of respect and deference for what the greats have done. Because they laid the foundation for us to be able to play in this great game.

“We’re standing on the backs of those guys,” Rodgers continued. “It’s because of how they played and how they carried themselves that we’re able to have this opportunity to still play this great game, to get paid really well, to set ourselves up for our future. So I’d love to get to know Terry on a deeper level if he’s open to it. And maybe we can go chew some bark or whatever the hell he’s talking about together.”

Here is the full clip of Rodgers’ remarks.

Terry Bradshaw said Aaron Rodgers should:

“Stay in California, chew on bark, and whisper to the gods.”

That was a pretty classy and well-handled response by Rodgers. But his dynamic with Bradshaw may be a bit more complicated than that.

Video evidence has circulated on social media suggesting that Bradshaw has a personal vendetta against Rodgers dating back several years. Additionally, there was a belief that Rodgers joining the Steelers would lead to an awkward situation involving him and Bradshaw.

That said, Rodgers, 41, is officially in Pittsburgh (at least for the 2025 season) and is now showing his respect for the greatest quarterback in Steelers history. Whether or not Bradshaw, 76, takes the olive branch that Rodgers is extending to him may be a different story though.

Update emerges on Bill Self after his hospitalization

Bill Self appears to be trending in the right direction after recently having to be hospitalized.

The longtime Kansas Jayhawks head basketball coach Self released a statement on Saturday revealing that he had been released from the hospital and was now home. Self had been staying this week at Lawrence Memorial Hospital (LMH) in Lawrence, Kan.

“I want to thank all the amazing doctors and nurses at LMH Health for the excellent care I received during my stay there,” Self said in the statement. “I feel strong and am excited to be home. Our team has had a productive summer and look forward to our batteries being recharged and prepping for this upcoming season.”

The 62-year-old Self was admitted to the hospital on Thursday after experiencing “some concerning symptoms,” Kansas said in a statement at the time. As a result, Self had two stents inserted in a procedure that “went very well.”

Self also previously dealt with a similar health issue in 2023 that forced him to miss both the Big 12 and the NCAA Tournaments that year. That episode also saw Self having to be hospitalized after experiencing some chest tightness. During that hospital stay, Self underwent a heart catheterization and had two stents inserted to treat blocked arteries.

A two-time AP College Coach of the Year, Self has been in his position with Kansas since 2003. Over that span, he has led the Jayhawks to two national titles (in 2008 and 2022), four total Final Fours (not including a vacated one in 2018), and eight Big 12 Tournament titles (also not including a vacated one in 2018).

After his 2023 hospitalization, Self was adamant that he wanted to continue coaching for as long as possible. That said, Self did reportedly consider a shocking career move just last year.

Christian Wilkins reportedly may have had incident with teammate

There may be more to Christian Wilkins’ recent surprise release from the Las Vegas Raiders.

NFL reporter Josina Anderson wrote Saturday that some league sources believe Wilkins was involved in an incident with one of his teammates, which prompted his release. One source told Anderson that Wilkins had been “playing around.”

The nature of the incident is not clear. However, many believe the Raiders had a very good reason to move on from Wilkins considering the money they had invested in him. It also suggests the Raiders saw no alternative if they went straight to a release.

Wilkins was dumped by the Raiders just one year into a four-year, $110 million deal. The Raiders suggested Wilkins failed to take rehab seriously as he tries to work his way back from a foot injury.

Other teams do not appear to have the same concerns about Wilkins as the Raiders did, and he should find a new landing spot fairly easily. That is one of the reasons some suspect there is more to the Raiders’ decision than they are publicly saying.
